2nd phatty - 2nd disappointment

Post by deeait » Mon Jul 25, 2011 4:49 pm

Hey guys,
some weeky ago i ordered my first slim phatty. I loved it´s sound, no question, but it was so full of flaws (tuning issues that no calibration could fix, even after hours of war up; crashes, hang ups, stuck notes and so on even after reboot, installing latest os,...) that i had to return it to my seller. He convinced me to try another unit, so i got it yesterday, and its still the same. Although this phatty warms up faster then the last, it still constantly crashes after some time. I use cubase 5.5 on win xp with an edirol ua66 firewire card. I use normal midi cables to connect the phatty, but with usb its the same. Sometimes everything just freezes up or it makes this falling sound and freezes; sometimes a simple reboot helps, at other times i have to let it rest for hours until i can restart. Of course i have the latest os 3.1 installed.

So, on the bottom line i´m really frustrated. I use several other analogue gear including newer ones like dsi tetra, but i never had a device that felt so unstable and unusable. Could there be anything in my setup that causes these crashes? Like cubase transmitting something that confuses it? I still can´t belive moog would produce and sell such a crappy device?? So please help, I´m still hoping this can be fixed somehow...

How have you set up the midi filters in Cubase?
What midi connections do you use between you SP and your PC?

I have PC/Win, a Tetra and a LP.
The only time I have had problems like that is when the midi filters was sending midi in a loop with my LP, or when the Tetra was connected by both midi and usb at the same time.

Try setting up the LP to send MIDI on one channel and receive MIDI on a different channel.

Ok i installed midi ox and the port control shows that one of the midi yoke ports is constantly sending midi messages. Strange thing is, i dont even use this port...
However, good news is: when i shut down that port in midi ox, the slim phatty seems to work. I´ll investigate this further, if i find anything interestin i´ll post it here.
