Tribute edition-> hardware upgrade in Germany?

Post by Barely » Sun Jul 10, 2011 5:20 am

Hi there :)
I'm about to buy a used Tribute Edition LP. I've read that, in order to get the newest Firmware, I have to do a hardware upgrade.
Can that be done in Germany or do I have to send the LP to the States (which, due to shipping cost + tax would be quite expensive.)
If it can be done here, do you have a rough estimate on the price? Can I even do it myself (like for the pot edition upgrade on the Dave Smith Poly Evolver)?
Will I be better off with a LP Stage II, anyway?
Cheers and thanks for your Input,
Barely ;)

I'll just answer myself, in case anybody else is interested:
Yes, Rudi Linhard (www.lintronics.de) does the upgrade. Quite inexpensive.
Very nice guy, even in e-mails :)

Cheers,
Barely.

Well, the question is how much more you love the Tribute Edition than the Stage Edition. I would recommend you to add the CV output mod if you do send your Tribute to Moog, you might regret you didn't do that ^^. I recently bought a used Tribute Edition OS 1,02c and I asked myself a question similar to yours, is it worth it or am I better off with a Stage Edition? I eventually decided that I loved the wooden panels more than any software upgrade possible, so I bought the TE. To estimate the price is really hard... the shop I bought the LP TE from have a price on 2000 SEK (approximately 200€) for the CV out mod, when I asked them about it they admitted all they did was to send it to another shop which sent it overseas to Moog, no costs was to be added to the 300€ though as I understood it. Probably you could do the hardware upgrade needed for OS 2 and higher as well for maybe 50-100€ more, the price for the mods in $ is available on the LP product page, I just forgot how much it costs. For me the greatest issue wasn't the money really, it was being away from my recently-bought first analog synthesizer haha. I won't do any mods on my LP in the near future, it works perfectly for me as it is.

EDIT: the price on the Moog product page was for Stage to Stage II mod, I don't know how much the actual mod you are asking about costs but I guess it would be a total of 150-200€ including shipping, just a guess though.
My Gear:
Nord Electro 2
Little Phatty Tribute Edition
Korg Monotron
Epiphone G400
Moogerfooger 12 Stage Phaser
EHX Memorytoy analog delay
Boss SD-1 Overdrive

http://www.lintronics.de/

or the German MOOG dealer

http://www.emc-de.com

could be asked to do the job and Rudi Linhard offers also other modifications (slew rate mod).

Best Regards

Thank you for your input!
I asked Rudi Linhard, and apart from being a very nice guy even in e-mails,
he offered a fair price for the hardware upgrade.
So I guess it'll be a tribute edition, then ;)
Cheers!
