SP in Logic 9

Post by kaderm » Tue May 17, 2011 6:38 pm

Hi All
Just got my SP yesterday...
Happy with the sound (fantastic beast my first analog)
but I'm very used to VSTIs and Im actually struggling with a problem: no way to get the automation recorded in Logic...
I saw a vid where it seems its possible but I have not found the way to do it
I can automate from logic (drawing by hand on CC 19 for ex ) but no way to get the knobs movements I make on the SP recorded in Touch mode...
I would appreciate if you guys have the solution (maybe I missed a param on the SP ...)

---RME FF800 - MPK 25 midi Kbd

thanks !

hey man... don't use touch mode, just press record (as if you were going to play a part, and record the midi in like that...)?

thanks for the reply! sorry for the dumb question, I'm not very used to external analog syths..
Now, I tried to record some filter action whil in global record mode: it works but not as I would like
The automation is recorded in the region (data visible in Piano roll not on the track... OK now, I try to move the data from region to track the track (ctrl-cmd-uparrow) with no success...
I'm sure I'm missing something again
If you guys can help, It would me appreciated a lot

thanks

Are you running firmware 3.1 ? from what i understand it improves midi especially in logic (i'm just about to update myself when i seen this thread)

Yes, try 3.1 - it has hugely improved the LP's MIDI performance in Logic for me. In the MIDI setup menu choose Send CCs: All-Vol.

Yeah i seem to be having a similar problem ...

When I hit record i jam away and record in what I need. I dont tweak anything as I play .. I tend to tweak after.

So now i have my bass riff or whatever ... I now wanna tweak the filter cut off / envelopes etc. So I ...

- select my external midi channel for the Slim Phatty (which is routed to an audio channel so i can hear)
- Select latch in the automation and hit play
- now i start tweaking what i want i.e. ... filters/envelopes whilst my track is playing in the background

Normally if I had done this for a soft synth it would latch onto my parameter and record the automation and I would be able to see this (hit A to show the tracks automation) in the region... But it doesn't do this for the SP.

The only way I have discovered to record automation is to record something ... then hit record again and tweak what I want. Then the automation appears in The Hyper Editor.

Surely there's a way to record automation within regions (normally) without involving the hyper editor (not a fan of the hyper editor).

Maybe i have missed out a setting in the SP or i don't have logic setup correctly.

Any ideas or suggestions?

Latch mode, and automation in general, is really only for elements within Logic. Hyperdraw is what's used for MIDI "automation" which is what you do with an external synth. What you're doing (recording two separate regions) is a fairly good way to do things. You don't have to edit the data in the hyperdraw window though, it is also accessible in the piano roll, which I much prefer. Click the little button far left, then select the parameter that you need to edit. It's almost exactly the same as automation this way, but within a region.
