in Ableton go to MIDI setup (preferences, MIDI/Sync tab) and make sure that the SYNC box is highlighted/selected for the Slim Phatty midi OUT channel.

On the Slim Phatty, go to the LFO Sync page (Master menu) and set MODE: MIDI CLOCK.
Then for CLOCK: (also on LFO SYNC menu) you can set the clock division you want the LFO to sync to (whole notes, dotted eighth notes, etc.)

There is also an ARP SETUP menu with similar settings for the arpeggiator.

sounds like you are using Windows XP or before... in which case yes, it will be called "USB Audio Device" on your computer... and if you have more than one USB MIDI thing of any sort, they'll all be called USB Audio Device (#) where they are numbered in some order that you will have to figure out... in Vista and Windows 7 they finally figure out how to display the proper names so it will say Slim Phatty (or Little Phatty, or MidiSport 2x2, or whatever you plug in)

worst thing is every time I start ableton i have to set up the SP in MIDI/Sync tab coz the other usb audio device is the Presonus Faderport an the controls on it play the moog its werid.
so has to be usb 1 for FP usb 2 for SP next time i open ableton its has to be the changed to the other way usb 1 for SP usb 2 for FP

I dont get it!

Windows assigns each "USB audio device" a number... if the devices are always plugged in, then they get assigned a number on startup and I don't know what determines the order... try making sure the Slim is turned on before you turn on the computer, or always turn on the Slim last... either way, the idea is to try to make sure that the computer "sees" the USB devices the same way, each time you turn on the computer. Otherwise (let's say the Slim was turned on before the computer one time, and after the computer the other time), then the order of USb devices may be different from one time to the next. Live doesn't know this, so that's why you'd have to go in and fool with its settings.

This is actually the reason I updated to Windows 7, right here. :) they fixed this annoying problem...
