LP: real analogue pitch bend?

Post by Z-one » Sun Mar 27, 2011 12:46 pm

Hi,

I'm considering buying a Slim Phatty.

I want to do a cover of the 'Break free' solo, which includes a final deep pitch bend with absolutely no audible step.

Since there is no pitch bend on the Slim Phatty, and since using the pitch bend of a MIDI kb over more than 2 semitones would result in audible steps, how could I achieve the expected result with a SP?

In addition, does the Little Phatty have a real analogue pitch bend?
Can the amount of bend be set to more than +/- 2 semitones?

If you can notice stepping using a 14-bit midi message, your only choice would be CV.

Use the pitch CV in.

I don't think it's real analogue. I mean the core is 100% analog but it is still wrapped by a digital enclosure. This is something you'll have to deal with. Anyway, I have never had any problem with that.

I've always liked that keyboard solo and, don't ask me why, I've always thought they did it with a ribbon controller, like the ones found in the Yamaha CS-60 and CS-80.

I'd try the CV IN and a CV ribbon controller.

Because we already talk about this: Can anyone suggest me a keyboard that handles both, MIDI- and CV-Controls? We have one manufacturer in Germany, which is offering one (Doepfer). It has MIDI- and CV-outputs but lacks mod- and pitchwheels.
Any ideas?
To make it simple: Thank you, Bob!

I have the little phatty, and there is some stepping, but i only notice it on really slow wide bends. Also the master tuning knob can be used to bend if you want, but it doesn't return to center. If you want a doepfer solution, I think they have mod and pitch wheels in the diy section of their web site.
