Receiving LP in the Mail Tomorrow

Post by gabrielstigmatic » Tue Feb 01, 2011 9:41 pm

Well, I'm getting my Moog Little Phatty in the mail tomorrow. I've been a guitarist since I was 13 and am now 23. I sold my PRS to get this because I plan to get several Slim Phatty units so that I have a poly system, then I will get a Moog guitar! (*The E1-M to be exact*) I will be shitting myself when I am able to play "keytar" with genuine analog sounds!

Yes, I am a nerd. :D I know I could have just gotten some Slim Phatty units and controlled them with the Moog guitar. But playing on a keyboard forces me to think differently in terms of music, and I like that.

I also have a question. Has anyone played the Dave Smith Instruments Prophet ’08? What would be the advantage to getting a several Slim Phatty units with my Little Phatty over getting a Prophet?

edit: I guess I'm kind of answering my own question. From watching videos, I prefer the sound of the Little Phatty. It seems that overall, one can get a much more aggressive sound out one. I'm most likely going to go with a bunch of Slim Phatty units to get some Moog polyphony. I was just interested in what you all had to say.

 I could never sell any of my guitars, not even to finance the purchase of some wonderful Moog gear! I just wait until my bank manager tells me I can go for it

Congrats and enjoy your LP. It is a great instrument to learn synthesis on. Once you get used to the raw sound of the phatty and learn how to control it, adding effects to the chain is a boat load of fun.

It might be a good idea to research the moog guitar a bit more. I am not sure it is capable of what you are describing.

Well the E1-M has midi out and it can control any midi device! The little phatty has a midi in, so I assume that you can control the little phatty with it. :D

Skip to 1:44 and you will see what I'm talking about.

They're both different, but you can get pretty aggressive sounds out of DSI synths including the P08 and Tetra. I wouldn't say more or less, just different and at times scarily aggressive. I've got both Moog and DSI gear because they actually work pretty well together. Ideally you should aim to eventually have both - but you won't regret getting Moog polyphony.
