HELP: Minimoog Model D or Minimoog Voyager?

I am having such a hard time deciding on what to do here. I used to have a Model D and it was stolen. I took it in to a repair shop and when I went back to check on it, the shop was gone. All the equipment and everything. I literally cried because I had lost my baby. Now, the time has come to get another and I really want a Model D but the Voyager would just be so much more convenient. Less money to spend on servicing, and no time away from the studio while on the other hand, if I get a "D" and something goes wrong, it has to be sent out and repairs are costly and take a long time. I haven't spent much time with a Voyager to know the sonic characteristics. Can you all help me out? I have NO idea what to do here.

I started with a voyager but newer owned a D. For me the decicion would go to the voyager because of the advanced modulation possibilities, the touchscreen and midi.

First of all, sorry for your loss. Secondly,you've made a pretty good/excellent case for getting a Voyager. The Voyager is one of those synths I would've bought sight unseen but I did have the opportunity of spending time with one before I put my money down. Speaking as a former model D owner myself, there's no exact replacement for your model D but the Voyager is an excellent synthesizer in it's own right. Again, depending on where you live (middle of the Mojave, Kashmir, Antarctica) I'd recommend doing a little research and driving (catching a Greyhound bus) to the nearest music store, recording studio, etc. that has a Voyager and see for yourself.

Then I would also recommend rudis slewrate modification! I played on a regular voyager yesterday and the sound really lacks overtones. The classic open filter lead sound where the high frequencies tickle your ear was impossible to create with the unmodified voyager.

I also have to admit, that the look of the model d has something that the voyager does not have. The Voyager looks amazing, like a killer machine, but the d seems to say "look at me, i'm small, i'm simple, but i have the biggest balls on the planet"....

I had a voyager OS then later got a model D. They both have advantages over the other but and it probably depends on the needs/desire of the user. Firstly to the voyager's credit, I would say it has more advanced modulation capabilities and to my ears a more powerful filter. However the extended modulation isn't useful in creating the type of sounds I'm after and it feels somewhat polished overall . The model D is simple but it has a certain tone/texture which I was looking for and it seems a bit easier to find the required sound given the layout of the synth.

if you want a kind of minimoog model d, go for a model-d.

if you want another good synth, a voyager might be a real good choice.
