MIDI --> CV for the MF101, is this possible?

Post by JES » Sat Aug 21, 2010 4:28 pm

Hi,

This is a slightly different version of a question I asked on the controller forum.

I've got an MF 101. Let's say I want to integrate it with a MIDI capable monosynth and I have a MIDI-CV convertor. Is there a way to get the synth to trigger the filter from key press and key pressure so that it's effectively "integrated" with the synth (rather than by audio signal envelope, which is how I use it with bass)? I want the filter to trigger depending on how I hit the notes.

Also, is it possible to hook up the phaser's LFO to the filter in such a way as to generate a wobble effect, or do I lose the LFO controls when I run it out of the phaser (I don't yet own the phaser, but I'm thinking about it).

Any suggestions would be appreciated. Or if there's a better way to do this, I would love to know.

Thank you.

Hi

If you would like to externally trigger the 101's envelope generator there is a simple mod to do so. You could search the forum or I can dig it up for you if you like. Then a CV/gate signal could trigger the 101 and you could even get keyboard tracking by sending the pitch CV to the cutoff frequency. Any other controllers (velocity, aftertouch) will work if your converter converts them to voltage.

The phaser's LFO comes out at a fixed amplitude and so will need an attenuator (e.g. CP-251) if you wish to control the LFO amount/depth. It runs in parallel to the internal signal; the 103 will operate normally.

Thanks for a reply. Are you referring to this thread?

This seemed like the closest to what you are talking about.

Nearly ;)

The details are in this thread:

If you've touched a soldering iron and a drill before it shouldn't be too hard (YMMV).
