Voyager vs ms20?
Voyager vs ms20?
Hey guys I'm suppose to pick up a ms20 tomorrow any one have any experience with them curious to see if my voyager and korg will find love together or overlap sound wise. From what I can tell it seems the 20 is a ruffed tone where even though my voyager can be ruff is all around smoother. Let me know your opinions please. Thanks (sorry if i wrote weird still acclimating to ipad typing)
Re: Voyager vs ms20?
They can overlap some, but the MS-20 has some geat little filters in it (Bandpass and a nice highpass)that the Moog can't sound like. (And it doesn't sound quite like the Moog in low pass, either. They are similar but different. (I really liked my old MS20. Not really happy I sold it.) But now that I have my modular, it would be redundant. They can coexist nicely in a mix. But I'm not sure they will talk to each other. (Isnt the Korg Hz/oct and not 1V/oct?)

Re: Voyager vs ms20?
I have, love and use them both. both essential machines for true synth connoiseurs. the two synths feature a very distinctive sound, their filters sound different and also their envelopes (much snappier on the voyager) and oscillators. I won't say they're going to overlap, though they share some common features. with the help of a vx-351 the two synths can happily talk and collaborate each other. the ms 20 relies on a hz/v system while the voyager uses a V/oct system, but many modules on the ms20 accept +/- 5v inputs and provide +/- 5v outputs, so there's many interesting things the two could make togheter. then ms20 features a very unique and amazing ESP module which converts audio signals into cv signals. to make it short, you're definitely not going to regret your purchase.

Re: Voyager vs ms20?
ms20 for the "cheap carnival " type sounds, moog for the "fat expensive " sounds.
two different type of synth's ( apart from the fact that they are both substractional )

just a short remark. I've got now my Korg Monotron (very long delivery time actually). It has the "legendary MS 20 filter" inside as the description on the package mentioned. So if you like to get this filter sound you could feed the Monotron externally by the Voyager Mixer Out / Filter In port which filters the oscillators before they will guided through the Voyager filters or you could send the (left mono) audio out through this MS 20 filter directly.
Well, a very cheap solution. The Monotron cost around € 55.-.

I never believe a word Korg says anymore. I'd be impressed if that little impulse buy really sounds like the MS20 filter.Niko wrote:just a short remark. The voyager has a more user-friendly interface. It's easier to understand the signal path whereas the ms20 is very odd in design, it's patch bay is pretty hard to use also.
The overall sound of the ms20 is harder and more abrasive, good for bassy, metallic sounds. It has a certain gritty texture that the voyager doesn't. However the voyager has a beauty all of it's own, more complex and lush sound.
