curved antenna
curved antenna
just a matter of curiosity. What is the reason that the volume antenna on the Etherwave Theremin has its curved shape. I've seen Theremins from other manufacturers (e.g. Doepfer) which just have a kind of straight radio telescope antenna instead.

Re: curved antenna
The "loop" has one big advantage: It is much more sensitive to hand capacitance above and below and much less sensitive around. So the volume field will not be so much influenced by the player's body position which allows him to stand somewhat left of the middle of the theremin which gives him the opportunity to have a more spaced (and thus more precise) pitch field without degrading the volume field.
@Niko: Which Seefeld is it in your location record? Near the Ammersee in Bavaria?

Hi Thierry,
many thanks for the explanations. It's clear now.
And my Seefeld is actually near the Ammersee (adjacent to the Pilsensee to be precise, and to be even more precise I'm located in the suburb called Hechendorf). Now I'm writing from my office in Herrsching, which is really at the Ammersee. Do you know this area?

Re: curved antenna
I know this area since I've been working in Feldafing for some time, 25 years ago. Out of that, one of my best friends (also a thereminist) is your neighbor.
Europe is a village!
Next time when I'll travel to your area (if fairplay's and my schedule will allow it) we should meet all three together.

Re: curved antenna
Hi Thierry,
that's a great idea! Let me know your time schedules, I try to coordinate it with mine. And I actually passed fairplay's home already when I did my bike excercise through Hechendorf.
By the way, the next planned events I'd like to join are the Synthesizer Treffen München on October 16th. ( http://www.hieber-lindberg.de/shop_cont ... Termine#40 ) and the Without Touch 4 workshop in Lippstadt ( http://www.theremin.musikschule-lippstadt.de/ )
Yes, Europe and this entire planet is a village!
Looking forward for our common meeting.
