What kind of amplifier works best with LP?
What kind of amplifier works best with LP?
I have tried my little phatty through several different amps including a Fender bassman 200, a Vox AC30 and a Marshall VST amp. It may be a preference thing but I'm still interested to listen to any advice or set ups people are using

It really needs to be run thru a PA system, mine sounds great thru our 2000watt system

powered speakers are a good bet, unlike guitar amps they have a tweeter for high end. Like most synths, the lp can put out a vast array of frequencies. The new QSC K series would be my choice.

I think there are a wide range of options depending on what you want it to sound like and what you use it for. If you want it to do a little of everything then a full range PA style setup or keyboard amp is the best because it does little to colour the tone. However, I use mine for bass and love running it through an SVT and an 8 10

Im thinking of getting the Model E1 for interaction with the phatty so Im not sure about PA speaker plus I gig a lot so its a little awkward. I heard Barbetta Sona 31c is pretty good for an all round sound. Any other suggestions?kiddell2 wrote:It really needs to be run thru a PA system, mine sounds great thru our 2000watt system

I've experimented with my LP through a couple of systems including my Vox AC30. Wasn't terribly pleased with the sound from the vox. However, I've ending up running my LP through the power amp section of a Warwick Profet 5.1 Bass head and into an Ampeg Porta Cab (lightweight cap with a 12 inch woofer and tweeter). This set up gives my a nice fat and full sound for the LP on both bass and leads.
I guess the main thing to look for in the setup is something that will give you good frequency coverage, from tasty speaker shaking bass up to screaming leads. It's interesting swapping the LP into different setups and realising you've only been hearing half the sound.

I've been considering a Simmons DA200S for practice and monitor needs. I am currently using a Roland KC300. I would like it to go lower and the Simmons has stereo. Has anyone here tried one with their LP? It has a rated freq response down to 20Hz, but you know how those number can vary a lot from reality.

Kustom KBA65. Good features, great sound, and fairly cheap too. The closed back design compliments the punchiness of the LP, allowing for pretty deep lows without distortion. Has xlr line out too...
Boxes full o' wires, n stuff n stuff...

I've had great results through a Mark Bass amp with 2x10"+1x15"+4x12" cabinets. Also an old italian tube-amp from the 70s (davoli) through a Fender basscabinet worked fine. Definately more rockNroll than running the LP through the PA in my opinion! It all eventually comes down to mojo
