RC-50 with Taurus

Post by Mr Phono » Tue May 04, 2010 6:59 am

I control the arp tempo of the Taurus with my BOSS RC-50 but the timing when I press the tauruspedal has to be very accurate.
The tempo is synced cause when I change the tempo of the RC-50 the Taurus follows.
The problem is that when i first start the drum guide of the RC-50 and then press a note on the Taurus they are both on (for example) 120 BPM but the bass can be a little late or early depending on how good my timing was. Can they be locked to each other?

I also use the RC-50 as the master to clock the T-3.

I believe this problem could be solved if there was a way to have the T-3 accept MIDI Start and Stop messages.

I understand that the resolution of the T-3 is 24 pulses per quarter-note. This allows the T-3 to play a note duration value as short as 1/32 triplet (I. e., refer to manual, pg. 37) - not sure how useful that is.

The RC-50 is feeding a constant 24 pulse clock to the T-3. So when you play a note (pedal, or external keyboard), you are latching onto one of these incoming pulses. How close you get to grabbing a pulse that is ACTUALLY on beat, with the drums on the RC-50, is hit-n-miss - unless you practice a lot. You can easily be early or late.

As I said, if there was a way to have the T-3 accept MIDI Start and Stop messages, this could be solved. Right now, it's especially a problem when you stop the RC-50 and the T-3 keeps on arp'ing.

Thanks for the info. I guess I'll have to practice a lot on my timing....

Think of the MIDI Clock as a merry-go-round and you need to grab the golden ring (the downbeat) as it comes around.

Maybe Moog can add the MIDI Start/Stop message to the T-3 - it would be EXCEEDINGLY useful.
