too lazy to read the hole thread but heres my input..

i got an RME back in january.. it sits right beside me, to the right of my nordlead (which i use to controll it).
If you dont have the space or money, just for the RME.. only reason i would see in getting the full kb voyager is if your going to be playing live synth in a band setup or you dont have any other keyboards to control it :)

Well.. I think if someone has the money to burn, then the KB version offers a tiny bit more functionality, but looks cool and like you said, can go be used without the need for a other controller... This dude has a LP so he does'nt really have a need for a KB really.

I personally think its about budget too... how much your willing to spend.. if your on a budget, I'd say, don't be silly, just get a RME. Especially since the going rate for used RME's (if ur not afraid to go used) is a ton cheaper than the price for one new. With the money you'd save, you could buy another RME, or a LP if you didn't already have one.

Personally I'd much rather have a LP + RME then just one Voyager KB. Just my opinion.

The only thing that troubles me about that setup is the lack of aftertouch on the LP. I suppose it depends on your playing style but I like to use aftertouch.

This post has really helped me to make a decision. I have to go with my gut, even though it kinda goes against what is logical.

Because I have the LP I could get Poly from getting a RME and save $$
But, and I can't expalin why, I want a full Keyboard.

Funny thing is I don't even play as much as sculpt??

I think the big draw is that the Voyager will sit in my house like a fine art piece.

Thanks yall

I went for the RME for these reasons:

- price difference
- takes up less space and fits in my studio better
- I use my Virus ti2 polar as my main controller and want to keep it that way

The keyboard versions are gorgeous and I could have easily afforded to go that route instead, but I just found the RME to be best fit for my situation. No regrets ever since and it remains to this day as my favorite piece of gear!

I bought my voyager keyboard about a year ago and sometimes wish i bought the rme. I don't really use the touch surface and the voyagers keyboard action is really crappy! If i had the rme i would connect a cheap midi keyboard (which should normally be better then the voyager's keyboard) and then could use the velocity sensitivity which is completely unusable at the moment.

I must admit, that the voyager's crappy keyboard is not always a problem. Usually i don't play fast licks and i think that aftertouch is in any case better then velocity for controlling a synthesizer. But if you want to play an analog synthesizer in a virtuoso manner you better go with a cheap midi keyboard and the RME.

Peterkadar,

my bad.. There was something you posted around when I first got it that made me suspicious haha.. I actually bought mine used off a friend that bought his from a "really nice guy in Toronto" a while ago, so I just assumed haha.

I honestly didn't buy my voyager select for the keyboard itself.. and I'm having issues with it as it is. But I love the red back light and the mahogany cabinet. My second choice was a lunar with the white wash. They are both stunning looking, and I wanted something that was reminiscent of the Mini D.
