The MuRf or MF101?
I'm about to purchase a moogerfooger and have narrowed it down to the Murf and the Low Pass filter...I was wondering which one would be the best to get first...I love the sounds that the Murf can produce but I like envelope filters to...
I play bass if that helps. My playing ranges from multinote chords and fast slapping (Claypool/Wooten type stuff)...
love to hear your input.

Mna I have such bad G.A.S. at the moment...wish I could get both...but i'm lacking the 700 bucks to get both...
I found some good samples of both pedals on Musicians Friend (when they buffered properly)...and that made it even harder to decide...It's gonna come down to price I think...
The MuRF is rad as hell though....aaaaah choices

Hey, if you want to hear some good bass playing through a LPF, you should check out the album Ultravisitor by Squarepusher. Tom Jenkinson is amazing at slapping and chords (and a good drummer, too). Don't know if that type of music is your cup of tea, it is a live album and several of the songs are just him and a bass. It not his best album, but the playing on it is the best I've heard from him.
Anyway the relevance is that I can get almost the exact same sounds with my Mooger LP filter and ring mod. I don't know what filter or ring mod he uses, though.

Happy owner of AE0380.
They are such different effects, I am not sure you can meaningfully compare them. All the 101 can do is remove and emphasise certain frequencies above and around the pass band. Used with its envelope follower, this process will folow closely whatever you play. It's an effect you will recognise immediately when you start playing around with it. However, without further CV sources, that's all you will get out of the 101.
The 105, OTOH, will also remove frequencies but it will also add resonance around those frequencies that are not removed and is quite an unusual and interesting tone shaper. In static mode, think of it as a highly coloured eq. In pattern mode, it will percolate and chug or stretch and twist depending on the settings chosen and will impart a rhythmic quality to whatever you put through it. Whether this rhythm has anything to do with what you are playing, though, is entirely up to you. It's much harder to describe but loads of fun to play with.
