You're right - a momentary lapse of reason on my part.
At +5 it should just be the same as the incoming level.
Routing Noise through the mixer and setting the Offset control should boost your level. I think. *ducks*
Anyway, I still think the problem is low signal from the Noise circuit. Not enough noise in the noise.

No other differences that I know of besides the attenuators.
And for what it is worth, I have never been bothered by the range of my S&H. If it was putting out 0-5v randomly I would wind up attenuating it anyway. I can't comment on the noise level for sure since I've never owned an older one.
