how many would like a rackmount/module-only Taurus?

I'm just curious because I remember this being mentioned in another thread (I don't remember which one). Personally, I would be very interested since I'm pretty comfortable with using my Roland PK-5A for all my pedal needs. I'd just love to get the authentic Taurus sound without having a second set of pedals on the floor. Anyone else?

Hi Amos,

I think this makes a very strong argument for creating a Taurus 3 tabletop/rack
module once you've made your very last Taurus 3 that has pedals.

There are lots of musicians out there always looking to add great bass sounds
and effects to their existing arsenal. It'd make a killer gateway to the analog side.

Stick Player - sure, pushing those buttons and playing with the wheels sounds great, and like a fantastic way to connect with the instrument...it's just that I personally would be just as happy doing that with the unit sitting on a tabletop or in a rack. For me, what's crucial is getting that Taurus sound without having a second set of pedals on the floor. And I'm sure probably most people out there would say "well just put the Roland pedals in storage, then!"....but I really like those better than anything else as a pedal/controller unit. Besides, any time I really feel like I need to be stepping on a real Taurus, I can just power up my Taurus 1. Don't get me wrong, though, if the T3 were never made in any form other than its current footpedal incarnation...heck, I'm sure I'd still end up buying them. I think a T3, rackmount or not, is in my future one way or the other.

I love my T-3s & wouldn't trade them for anything, but I can see a real need and market for a rack unit.
Yes, a large aspect of the Taurus experience, especially when played live, is in the way the musicians interact with the real-time performance controls, but let's face it - this thing is friggin big and heavy.
Studio engineers & sound designers are going to want those fantastic sounds, without having to sacrifice precious studio real estate required for the floor unit.
I would like to see a design that could be used either as a table-top or rack-mounted unit, with both wooden sides and rack ears included.

Oh, and JaseyT, the PK-5s don't go into storage - they become a practice set to leave at home or the rehearsal space, or, better yet - a second set of pedals to use on stage, MIDI'd up to the T-3s & used under a side keyboard rig, or by (gasp!) your guitar player. I'm glad I still have my PKs - I'm coming up with new uses for them now that my T-3s are here.

I was teasin' you! I use an Oxygen 8 to control a lot of what the T3 can do.

I'm working the T3 into my mayhem of pedals and it will be more convenient to use this little keyboard controller sometimes.

I'm getting a MIDI merger device so that I can connect BOTH the Oxygen 8 and the RC-50 to the T3.

I bought a Akai MPK25 specifically for tweaking the T3. I then setup 12 of the rotaries to control everything from Filter cutoff, res, attack, etc. buttons for ARP Latch on/off and other settings. I also have on knob that tweaks the tempo of my MP-201 clock which I use to run my Midi clock for everything and the keyboard of the MPK is set to my Phatty which is across the other side of the room. The MPK also has expression pedal input that can be bound to control any CC parameter.

As great as the T3 is, you can only mess with one setting at a time. I nearly broke my back screwing with the MP201 when I got it, forget about this beast.

There's a fair amount of conversation speaking to having a 'rack' version of the T3 (the T2's were crazy but they had an interesting idea). Using a controller is the next best thing for those that want pedals on the ground but the utility of all of the knobs you would get on a traditional analog synth can have both.

Definitely good points raised here. I certainly see the value of a rack unit in addition to a pedal unit. I'll probably use my LP as a controller and play the sounds that way too.

I would love a rack Taurus 3.

1. Big bass balls!!!

2. I don't know how to play pedals well (can be fixed with lots of practice)

3. I can't justify the expense currently (a rack is sure to be considerably less dough)

After the current line of T3s sell out, I'm hoping a rack/desktop taurus will be released.

I think when I initially thought of purchasing the T3, my thoughts were looking at CV and Midi control via another instrument. I was thinking Voyager duophony, etc. I think I would have rather chosen a rack version over the pedals if I would have had the option in the beginning. After seeing the design I think Im happy with it.


Come to think of it, if it were a rack design, I think that Id probably end up looking for a set of bass pedals to go with it.

I'll also be using them as a midi controller to trigger samples from my Korg M3-m on gigs, and for running pedal bass from my Nord. It'll have many uses, I hope.

Although the word "rackmount" is being used on this thread a lot
I think that a table-top module would be much more musically useful.

Such a module would beg to be tweaked in realtime and I know, at
least from my own experiences, that I rarely find myself twiddling
when I have to bend my wrists back 90 degrees to do so.

A table-top unit (that can also be rack-mounted) lets you put it where
you want it, when you want it there.

A rack-mounted Taurus 3 would have most or all of its jacks way in
the back, eliminating the spontaneous patching that makes Moogs
and Moogerfoogers so much fun.

If the demand is there they will probably make one. T1 prices have dramatically dropped though, as have the prices for stripped T2 units. Ive seen those pedals sell for like 300 bucks.

I think it would be really nice if they released a Fooger version of the T3 filter....with an Audio input.

If this were down to a vote, I'd be voting no. I think the concept would be terribly redundant... after all, the concept is to be able to play notes with your feet whilst your hands are busy playing your main instrument, be it synth, guitar, bass or whatever.
