they work beautifully together. yesterday i recorded som rhodes through the 102 and then 103. i tuned the carrier of the 102 to suit the notes i would play, set the resonance high on the 103 and tuned the sweep freq to fit the harmonies produced by the 102. then used a korg cvpedal to add lfosweeping of the 103 to pronounce some passages
the 102 can be very chaotic, but also, when tuned right and when playing the instrument "with" the effect it can get very musical in a strange way
these are precisioninstruments. you can set the lfo to autosweep and then forget about it and just play but thats missing the point

i have the mf-105 as well. does plugging the 102's lfo out or carrier ocsillator jacks result in freaky sounds or have you not tried that. i just heard some clips at elctro harmonix of the small stone and i want to know if putting out the 300 bucks will give me crazy sounds or just settle for a normal but great sounding phase like the s.stone. thanks again!

the small stone does the small stone sound good but if you want to experiment then theres not much you can do besides flipping the switch and changing the speed.
the 103 on the other hand is a universe of flesh, resonance and fucked up sounds, especially if you have more cv-gear

Good choice! I've got the MF-101 and the MF-103 so I didn't feel like I could really answer your question. However, I have found the phaser to be incredibly useful. It warms up just about anything, I've used the LFO to control other pedals, and with the high rate setting you can make all kinds of crazy noises. Like the other moogerfoogers, it's definitely more than just a phaser...

Maybe the CP-251 would be a better choice now if you're interested in a variety of sounds? It has an LFO (although it doesn't go as slow as the MF103). Are you interested in total noise music or at the very least non-diatonic experimental music? Or are you thinking more traditional noises? What instruments are you using? I have reams of MDs filled with stuff I did with just the MF101,103, 104 and CP-251...

im after noise that i can mix in a pop type song but make the song interesting. i love bands like Neu!, acid mothers temple, broken social scene, velvet underground, it goes on and on. i think i heard your mp3's before and i remember thinking it was really good.
