Going to pick up my Taurus today!
Right. They knew they would sell. They had faith that Moog would be able to produce the T3, as we did. I don't understand what motivation has to do with it. They had no more advantage than an individual with the $$ to invest. My point is that their buying helped Moog raise the money faster than if Moog waited for individual musicians to purchase them one at a time, and we all benefited from the expedited production.Mr Arkadin wrote:I'm glad whoever got their pedals now has, i'm not hating, get them by whatever means are at your disposal. I think it's a bit rich to call the money speculators (dealers) 'the faithful' though. There's nothing wrong with profiteering but that's all it is, not some deep respect for the legacy. They knew they would sell and jumped in at the cheaper price to make a profit..
That said, if the dealers had been allowed to purchased large blocks of T3's in the first few days and made it difficult for the individual to buy directly, I would feel that was unfair.
(End of thread hijack. Sorry!)

in T3 heaven......
So a reseller snags one at the discount of $1695 then sells it on ebay for the retail of $1995, pocketing an easy $400 from a buyer who thinks he's getting a bargain yet has zero knowledge of the markup.
When they do that with concert tickets they are known as "scalpers".
Shady people, them.

Gear list: '04 Saturn Ion, John Deere X300 tractor, ganged set of seven reel mowers for 3 acres of lawn, herd of sheep for backup lawn mowers, two tiger cats for mouse population control Oh you meant MUSIC gear Oops I hit the 255 character limi
I am totally cool with a dealer purchasing a set early and selling them for what they cost now. Come on. Scalper analogy doesn't hold at all. They are selling them for what it would cost to order them from any dealer now.
They ordered them in this economy with no knowledge of how incredible they would sound.

wow, you really don't understand how wholesale/retail works. do you think that stores buy things for $1995 and then sell them for $1995? i've sold test equipment for years and i promise you that a store wouldn't even pay $1695 for something that sells for $1995. google around and learn what "a mark" and "b mark" is. then google wholesale versus retail. you'll soon see that this is how companies pay for employees, healthcare, electricity, building insurance, taxes, rent, fuel, advertising, web, theft, damage, little league team sponsorships, etc. it never ends.MC wrote:So a reseller snags one at the discount of $1695 then sells it on ebay for the retail of $1995, pocketing an easy $400 from a buyer who thinks he's getting a bargain yet has zero knowledge of the markup.

p.s. $1995 -1695 = $300 not $400

Interesting direction that this thread took - but I'll say I am entirely grateful that the shop - Bass Emporium in Austin TX - had the foresight to order the pedals a year back - otherwise I would not have them right now because I was totally out of the scene and clueless about the T3s back then. I've only recently got back into playing again.
It doesn't bother me at all that they got the discount and made some money because for one thing they are a damn good shop that supports the music scene invaluably in my town. And they only got 1 unit.
On the other hand - you guys got a free T-shirt? damn! I wanted that!

The majority of sellers and dealers on ebay work alone and have no expenses to employees, healthcare, et al. Especially sales taxes, which they make great effort to avoid. Little league team sponsorships? Please.
Thus concludeth the math lesson of the day. So after post numero uno, do you plan to contribute to the moog community on a regular basis or only to barge in here to defend shady business practices?p.s. $1995 -1695 = $300 not $400

Bass Emporium is an authorized Moog dealer.
AudioSyncrazy is an authorized Moog dealer.
Is there anything else you need to know???
There IS a business value in taking care of your retailers.
And did you ever stop to think that maybe that retailer had A CUSTOMER come in and order one back on Day One but then had to bail out now due to unforseen financial circumstances????????????????????????????????????????????
If some guy that is just a citizen wanted to front Moog $5,000 and wait 16 months or more for the priviledge to pay off the balance due on 10 T3's and sell them on Craigslist then more power to them.
I haven't had a job in 10 months because of the collapse of commercial and industrial construction from coast-to-coast and you guys are whining about "shady business practices" over the sale of a single T3.
F u c k . Join the real world, amigos.
Some of you guys are really living in a bubble.
And why anybody would feel welcome after the snarky comments from some of the supposed "illuminati" around here is beyond me.

if you really think a 17% markup is a shady business practice then you're going to be very disappointed to find out how much most items in real life are marked up from wholesale. as for contributions to the moog community please feel free to ask me your genuine questions about analog synthesis, digital synthesis, or signal processing. it's not my intention to only help you with your subtraction. i would rather help you with your subtractive synthesis ;-)MC wrote:So after post numero uno, do you plan to contribute to the moog community on a regular basis or only to barge in here to defend shady business practices?

Gosh, well i didn't intend to derail this thread quite so efficiently. Sorry about that. All i was saying was that after all the deliberation i had to make about whether i could afford these or not, i could have just waited till two weeks ago to put a deposit down and already be playing with them. i'm not upset by it, just feels a bit off that's all.
Wish i could get a Rick that cheap in the UK btw. Might have to see about importing one, would still be cheaper with import duty than buying here.
