Sorry kinda OT but i need HELP

Post by ColorForm2113 » Fri Feb 12, 2010 2:17 am

so i was flipping through radio stations and heard this song on one of the old school r&b/funk/soul stations that i just fell in love with. it sounded like something daft punk would have used in there music and all i can remember is part of the chorus
*lead singer "You got to keep on, keep on!"
*Back up male singers "gotta keep- keepin on, gotta keep keepin on"
theres some heavy moog sounding bass synth stuff going on, hense why i asked here.
ive googled, ive youtubed, ive allmusic.com'd with no success. :? can anybody help! i know theres not much to work with but i figured some one here would know. Please Go search your stacks of vinyl!

If you can remember the station, maybe they publish a playlist online?

Hello,

Thats D-Train. Its the Brooklyn-based duo of James "D-Train" Williams
on vocals, and Hubert Eaves III, producer and keyboardist.
That release was 1982, and before that Hubert Eaves played with Mtume.
The bass is Minimoog, and the poly is more than likely Prophet 5 (to my ears).
There were about three NYC-based labels that were putting out
post-disco funk/r&b/dance bands: Prelude, Salsoul, and West End, from about 1978-1983.
The keyboard sound was often a combination of Minimoog, Prophet 5, and String Ensemble.
It became a sort of NY sound.

@ keith - yeah I tried finding it again unfortunately I didn't leave it on that station when I got out of the car, and I have no clue what station it was.

@ eric - although those are both really good songs they're not it. But yeah doing a google search for "keep on keepin on" does give you a good handful of every genre through out the 70s lol

@ lwg - yes! That's it, d-train. What a relief, thanks. I hate when I get song stuck in my head and have no clue who it is.
Thank you every for looking. Keep on keeping on!

If you have an iPhone, there's an app for that (sorry, couldn't resist).
Shazam. Free.
Point it toward any music source and tap "Tag Now". It samples the music, shoots it off to a database, and 99% of the time it comes back with artist, album, cover art, iTunes availability, and if there's a YT video.
It's saved me from a few sleepless nights.
BTW, did I mention it's free?

OMG,
Dude, you were driving down the street jamming. Its like you were in a different time with a pocket full of spliffs on your way to jump some bones.

I like this alot. I sort of like the 80's Morris Day and the time style funk that this is.

Heres some of that for you, it would probably play on the same station.
