Voyager Backlight Question
Voyager Backlight Question
Hi there,
My first post! I'm about to get a voyager, but am himming and hawing over whether to do select or OS. I love the idea of a backlight...they look amazing, but I read somewhere that they're only rated to last 1000 hours at full brightness. I'd imagine that number is quite a bit higher at reasonable settings, but obviously, they'll need replacing. Is this a user serviceable replacement? Expensive?
Thanks for any opinions!

Select or OS? Well, would you miss not having MIDI? The OS doesn't have it and the Select does. If it was me, I'd get the OS, just because it's...well...old school. That's me, though.
I agree about the backlight wearing out and needing replacing. That could be very costly, even if doing it yourself.

Minitaur, CP-251, EHX #1 Echo, EHX Space Drums/Crash Pads, QSC GX-3, Pyramid stereo power amp, Miracle Pianos, Walking Stick ribbon controller, Synthutron.com, 1983 Hammond organ, dot com modular.
I don't think the backlighting is user servicable.
It probably could be, but I think you would have ti dissassemble the whole thing and it would really be a pain in the butt.
I think for the filter pole settings, extra modulation, and touchscreen alone makes the MIDI Voyager better than the OS.
THe OS had its advantages too, but in my book, not enough to sell me on it.

Okay,
In the manual it clearly states it is not a user servicable part. Is that acceptable?
It doesn't take too many brains to figure out what is going to void the warranty and what isn't. You ever see any upgrade kits available on the homepage?

It says on the homepage it is a factory upgrade in bold print.
Whats there to argue about?
Edit:
The upgrade costs $99.

You send it to the factory for repair. (Or turn it off. Then it's like the earlier Voyagers.)
Having had a Mini in the past, I understand the OS. But I would NOT be without the touchscreen and the extra modulation routing the other Voyager present. (I don't use MIDI much, but it is nice to have.)

Re: Voyager Backlight Question
I was quoted $300 total to replace the back light in my Select Series from a Moog tech.kbauman wrote:I'm about to get a voyager, but am himming and hawing over whether to do select or OS. I was told it's a difficult process to replace the back light, so I'm planning to buy the parts and keep them stored for when the day comes to have someone do the work.
