New Too Lil Phatty Please Help!!

Hello and Greetings-

I am a new user too this synth. I would like a true understanding of this keyboard so I can be as creative as possible. Are the videos out there other then "Youtube", Jordan Rudish videos on there.

His videos are great but I need an inside look on how to really get into the little Phatty.

Like for example I want to change a preset sound too my liking right,, what are the steps in control the sounds itself. Do you go from the left too the right with the knobs are is there another way to go about this.

I am new too synthesis programming and would like to use this LP as a starting point.

I need to reach past the presets, they are lifeless. Like the "glide function" I hear how it's used in songs that I listen to, but when I try and go and command it, I get lost.

Please tell me that one of you have some DVD tutorial out there that can help in my finding out more about this unit.

There is no DVD tutorial. My advice is to start with the filter, as that is the basis of the Moog sound. Then play around with the oscillators. After that, check out the modulation section. In other words, push buttons and turn knobs until you find a sound that you really like, then save that sound. Even though I had never owned a synth prior to the Little Phatty, I found it to be quite simple to navigate. Have fun, and good luck!

The LP uses a technique called subtractive synthesis so when they start to talk about FM sythesis and such you can skip does parts if you don't want to read it for further education.

Naaa... I think you made a good choice you just have to sit down and play with it and if you need to know why it sounds the way it sounds when you twist that knob then the synthsecrets link I posted above is a good place for info.

Man like I said-

It's a shame that the Moog people di dnot think to make DVD tutorials for guys like me, we are out here. To some it might seem not difficult but to others it can be a big challenge. I plan on setting down with it after I leave this forum.

Jordan Rudish has several ones out there but they are all about how he set his up not an intro to what the LP really is and how to use it.

If we are asking for it that means that there is a demand for it, I wiould buy one today, but I can not find one anywhere. So maybe this is a hint to one of you that have the means to make tutorials and post them some how or if you sold it I would purchase from you, seriously.

Roland made this same mistake with the V-Synth and pist off tons of users, but anyways,,,,,,,,,,,,,.

Roland just pisses off tons of users for the sake of pissing off tons of users. Which is why I REFUSE to buy ANYTHING from them.

if this is your first time programming a synth, you're lucky. the LP is a dream to program.
you should read the glossary section of the users manual, and then youtube phases like: ADSR (attach, decay, sustain, release), Envelope Generator (far right section on the LP), VCO (voltage controlled oscillator), VCF (voltage controlled filter), VCA (voltage controlled amplifier), LFO (low frequency oscillator), and Glide (portamento).
you won't get tutorials on the little phatty but you will gain an understanding on how these things work on other synths (yes, even on soft synths....god forbid!). then you can apply that to the LP. it's all the same stuff, but the LP sounds way better than those other synths.
when you start to program your own sounds, make sure the modulation wheel is turned all the way down, start messing with the ADSR in the envelope generator section and go back and forth to the volume and then the filter ect. ect. then go to the Filter section, hit a button, and the knob above will correspond with it. go to the oscillator section tweak the octave, volume, and wave. once again- hit the button, and the knob above will correspond. you see it's easy. good luck, and have hours of fun.

I just want to say.. you made a really good choice to buy the LP rather than the evolver.

And the presets, although I think some are great, may not be your cup of tea.. they are a good starting point into making your own sounds.. This is the fun of electronic music hardware.. you get to press buttons and turn knobs untill your hearts content, changing every aspect of the sound untill it's something that works for you. The LP is a incredibly versatile monosynth with a really unique sound.. have fun with it, play around with it, experiment.. after doing that for a few hours, your gonna remember what parameters change what in the sound.
