Just to clear out the semantics : Sysex utilities send files (.syx) and receive them.
These files contains either of 3 things : a) the whole OS of your machine, b) a whole patch bank, c) a single patch or preset. Needless to say, these are instrument specific. You don't want to send a .syx that does not belong to your instrument.
Controlling your synthesizer in real-time is simply called MIDI control. It is achieved by sending bytes according to the MIDI definition. Midi controls are categorized in number of command sets, of which the two more importants are CC's and NRPN's.
CC's (continuous controllers) are a standardized (but limited) set of commands of the MIDI implementation. That's what the LP works with. The set of CC's supported by the LP is listed on page 45 of the LP instruction manual.
In order to expand the CC set, manufacturers use NRPN's (Non Registered Parameters). These will often work with extended values (ex 0-4095) while CC' are limited to 0-127 (0-255 in some cases). These are VERY instrument specific. Once again, you don't want to send unsuited NRPN's to your instrument.
So the answer a yes for the most part. With CC's. The LP's OS has been expanding a bit lately. For instance, the mod wheels can use now use 0-4095 as value.
I don't have the details of new or expanded midi control codes for recent OS updates. If I am not mistaken, MIDI control of the Arpeggiator will be included in the next OS, it is not atm.
Also, it is a manufacturer's implementation decision which CC's or NRPN'S will be sent to MIDI Out. For parameters that are sent out, you can see them on the console of a midi utility (such as Midi-Ox). This way you can figure out the undocumented. Just watch the codes coming out while operating a single parameter or knob on the machine.
It would be great if MM maintained and made available a comprehensive and up to date list of MIDI controls for each instrument, showing additions or changes from each OS to the next.

well i can edit patches on the microwave and it works great via sysx or is it sysex?
novation is one of the few controls that can do that...
well yes some of the controls of the phatty can be controlled over midi cc i know but not all and that was the moment when i thought about controling the phatty over sysx? or sysex?....
