Bob got a kick out of that. Musta drove the guys at ARP nuts.
Great story MC, thanks for sharing!
Just finished reading an old Keyboard mag. article about the fall of Arp. There were a few quotes by Arp execs. telling how Alan R. Pearlman had an obsession with not being associated with Moog. Aparently some of his R&D dept. wanted to put wheels on certain models, and Pearlman refused as it would be to much like Moog. And I always thought it was because Moog had a patent on them?
But hey, I really like the PPC pads. I think they were a let down for some, if they were aproached with thinking they would react like a wheel. They are more subtle and can get these micro bends that can be difficult on a wheel with a detent.

Actually, the 2600 was the only ARP to have Moog filters. That's according to Kevin Lightner, if you need sources. The 4012 filter, available on the earlier 2600's, was a copy of the Moog filter, and predates the Odyssey.

Well, that's not entirly true. The 1006 used on the 2500's is said to have a -24db/oct low pass transistor ladder filter, based on the Moog design. As was the 4013 used on the original Soloist. Then there was the 4034 on the explorer and similar 4035 used on some Odyssey II models, that uses four CA3086 transistor array chips, also 24db low pass transistor ladder filters, similar to Moog design. The story is Arp stopped using these for fear of a law suit.
While an Odyssey III never came stock with one, it used the 4075, that did not stop me from dropping in a CAE 4035 into that particular Odyssey.

New CAE 4035 on left, old removed 4075 on right = one bad-ass orange face oddy!

Well, that certainly is interesting. So you basically installed a Moog clone filter on your Odyssey? Tell me, CZ, is there anything you own that hasn't been modified in some way, shape, or form? Respectfully, from one DIY'er to another of course.

The 4034 ladder filter was on the ProSoloist too. I bought one from a friend for $25 back in the early 90s. I was a knob snob (hey new vintage slang!) and was initially put off by the preset-only ProSoloist but something about its sound appealed to me. I didn't find out until later that the 4034 was a copy of the moog ladder filter.
The aftertouch in the PS is very effective too. Aftertouch didn't appear again until an option in the Chroma.
But when the Pro/DGX came out, the 4034 was replaced by the 4075.
