Awesome, it seems to be working for me!
When I initially tried to install it in, it had a "DATA ERROR 3"!!!
And I panicked a bit, but then coolly collected myself and reinstalled it, and it all work... PHEW! Just don't scare me again like that LP...

Update worked fine for me using USB with no MIDI cables attached.

Make sure you backup your patches because this deletes all arpeggios from all patches until you restore the factory settings.

Auto-tune seemed to be having some trouble after the automatic restart. It would get close then it would be off - repeatedly. After about 20 minutes I turned the LP off and back on and then Auto-tune worked pretty much right away. Otherwise things went smoothly via USB.

"New Free Software Update for the Little Phatty Stage Edition now available.

Visit the Little Phatty Stage Edition page and click on the "Software" tab. You will be presented with a list of downloadable OS updates (for various computer operating systems etc) and utilities.

Enjoy!"

The official page with download and OS update instructions is here:

http://soundtower.com/moog/littlephatty/download/

Please note, the instructions do not mention the Little Phatty Tribute Edition, but you can use this same Editor software to update your Tribute Edition to the latest firmware. From the "LP Model" menu, select "Tribute" and then when you choose "OS Update" you will be presented with two firmware options for the Tribute Edition.

OS 1.04 is the latest firmware for Tribute Editions which do not have the hardware upgrade which allows OS 2 to be loaded. If your Tribute Edition already has the hardware upgrade/is running OS 2.0, then you can choose to update to OS 2.1 for the LPTE.

won't work for me

Post by bgm » Wed May 20, 2009 1:36 pm

Can't seem to get this to work.
From the instructions on the Soundtower site:
  • -On the Little Phatty panel press MASTER button.
-Scroll down to the SYSEX UTILITIES using the Value knob.
-Press CURSOR button and select FW UPDATE.
-Press CURSOR button again and change FW UPDATE: OFF to FW UPDATE: ON.
I have a Stage 1, with version 2.0 installed. When I go into the Master menus, I don't have a "SYSEX UTILITIES" menu, but I have a "SYSTEM UTILITIES" menu and a "SYSEX MENU." Neither has an option for "FW UPDATE." I can't find a Firmware Update option anywhere. And when I go ahead and start the update anyway, I get a "STAGE 1 ERROR CYCLE POWER" message.
Can't say I'm surprised, as I haven't been able to get the Editor to work once for me in the almost 2 years I've had it. Usually I do updates from the Sysex Librarian but there doesn't seem to be an option to do that this time. Is there?

I thought it was just me. I had attempted the update at 4am and attributed my failure to being overly tired. Editor Librarian won't even recognize the Little Phatty or M-Audio UNO. :?

Guys: The STAGE 1 ERROR indicates that all is not well with your MIDI setup.

If the editor/librarian does not recognize your MIDISport UNO or if it's not able to get past stage 1, then the first thing I'd recommend doing is to go directly to M-Audio and download from them the latest drivers for your particular operating system. I have seen this step completely solve firmware update issues with the MIDISport series in the past. Here's the link:

http://www.m-audio.com/index.php?do=support&tab=driver

on the left, click "Midisport Series" then in the middle box, select your particular Midisport model (UNO, 1x1, etc.) then in the right box, select your exact operating system version (if Windows XP, specify Service Pack 1, 2, or 3; etc.) -- then download the appropriate driver and install it, following all instructions carefully.

This alone may well solve the problem. If not, let me know...

Also, on the LP Stage II or LP Stage with OS 2.0, the FW UPDATE option is indeed located on the SYSTEM UTILITIES menu. First thing you'll see on that menu if you press Cursor then scroll to the left using the Value knob. Set to ON in order to do the update.

Cheers,

Amos

Hmm. The only options I have under the SYSTEM UTILITIES menu are "CALIBRATION," "RESTORE FACTORY," "MASTER REBOOT," "MENU WRAP:ON/OFF," "HP VOL: 255" and the version number "VERS: 2.0 530."

I'm not M-Audio, I have an Alesis io|14, which has a pretty recent driver update, although I haven't checked in a month or so. But I've always been able to update the OS and save/send patches through the Sysex Librarian. Also I can play Midi instruments no problem. Soundtower Editor has never worked though. Love to fix it. Any other ideas? Thanks!

I'm pretty sure that only the Stage II, or Stage I units which have been upgraded to have USB, have the "FW UPDATE" option. Stage I units with no USB do not have this option, so you can ignore this step, and proceed straight to the firmware update.

If the SoundTower Editor does not play nicely with your MIDI interface, just email me. My name at moogmusic d0t c0m.

Well, I didn't find the "FW UPDATE" option either so I tried doing the update anyway and got some serious troubles.
My LP's lights went crazy, displaying random stuff, and the master button wasn't working anymore (pushing it didn't do anything). I got scared a bit but managed to get back to OS 2.0 with the sysex file.
Any idea what happened ? I'm the careful type, never had any problem before.
It is by will alone I set my mind in motion.

Embryo, sounds like in the transfer where things went oddly, the first byte of the sysEx file might have been dropped... the first byte is crucial as it tells the LP that sysEx is coming in as opposed to MIDI data. If the whole OS file is treated as regular MIDI commands, crazy behavior happens. Usually, you can recover from this craziness with a simple reboot and it does not prevent you from trying the OS update again.

Anyone who has trouble sending this firmware update should email me directly for assistance. You can also email techsupport at moogmusic dot com.

Best wishes,

Amos
