Here's an update -
It's still being beta tested.
We were hoping we'd have the demo up on the site today, but it is now looking it will be early next week, hopefully Monday.
Following that shortly we'll have the full version for sale.
Sorry for the delay - but hang in there - it will feature a few new tricks - and a new look!

Hello,
I just opened the Mac Demo and was a bit confused to see the interface featuring multiple default highlighted buttons. According to the Human Interface Guidelines by APPLE (these a part of the magic of a Mac) there should only be a single button highlighted (=being blue in the Aqua design). This is a real "must not" for Mac programmers and very easy to fix.
The main menu of the Mac disappears while renaming patches after double clicking on in the left column. Again not Mac conform. And the renaming dialog should show where the line break is. Maybe use a mono space font here and add a little marker ad the line brak point. Or use two line text edit box for naming patches. I think all users are think in two lines while nameming sounds. And not like "I know, line wrap will be after the xth character. The actual display font of the Voyager names uses a monospace font two.
If the "moog" in the lower left would be added as white graphics a layer UNDER the gray one, and off set by a single pixel to the left and a pixel down, the visual FX of an engraved logo would be perfect. I use this on my Mac programms now an then when using the metalic look interface.
And there is no warning notice showing up, when you start the application without the folder "bundle" and its content (containig the MIDI plug-in for the code that is done by a second part software supplier I think). And there is no Read Me or warning in the manual that tells you to run the program with this folder being present in the same directory as the programm. This is of cause not really Mac OS X conform. The needed folder "budle" should be inside a budle containg the actual program and the needed "DxMidiX" software plug-in of the "Moog Voyager" Software that enables Midi transfer from the Mac's build in CoreAudio to the program and the other way too.
I was alreaddy able to translate some of the programs menues and static texts to german. Is there a german translation in the pipe?

Users that like to change it to their copy of the demo shoul keep an unaltered file for reference on their HD. No warrenty given by me.
This all sums up to me to:
If the Moog hardware would be build as good/bad as the new Mac software for the Voyager, then the whole name of Moog would have vanished in the big hole of the past. And all major artists in the past and future would play synths with pitchbend knobs (no wheels) and sliders in favour of knobs for parameters.

Believe it or not we had only "Edit" button as a default (and still is). Then, we got a suggestion to light them all up to look nicer. No big deal, this can be changed back.I just opened the Mac Demo and was a bit confused to see the interface featuring multiple default highlighted buttons.
It is a good suggestion and actually easier to implement than typing in one text box. Our idea was for a user to type a new name and then simply use a space bar to move a part of it to a second line. And the renaming dialog should show where the line break is. Maybe use a mono space font here and add a little marker ad the line brak point. Or use two line text edit box for naming patches. I think all users are think in two lines while nameming sounds.

Nice, consider done.
To satisfy curiosity. The next app we will compile will run with or without bundle folder just to prove the point it the voyager app can be all containned in one app file. Some older midi interfaces without a true OSX driver (like EMAGIC for example) still work with OSX fine but they chop larger sysex files into 1-2 byte pieces and also they may not send End of Sysex byte to make it even more interesting. In order to make sure that the midi In works with all interfaces around I asked a friend from real-software to create the bundle to take care of it. I am supriced that this issue was brought up because the downloadable SIT file contants a whole "Voyager" folder and the installation is quite straight forward - just unstuff-it to a Macintosh volume and run voyager app.And there is no warning notice showing up, when you start the application without the folder "bundle" and its content (containig the MIDI plug-in for the code that is done by a second part software supplier I think).
But an application that needs an other file/folder then it self is not mak at all if these file are all kept in the SAME folder. The "bundle" should be installed by an installer in the LIBRARY folder in the "Application Support" folder. This would be according to the rules on the Mac OS X. This path is a constant and therefor easy to code into the application.soundt wrote:...I am supriced that this issue was brought up because the downloadable SIT file contants a whole "Voyager" folder and the installation is quite straight forward - just unstuff-it to a Macintosh volume and run voyager app.
I am using the Emagic mt4 on my Mac OS X PowerBook since Mac OS X 10.2.1 without a driver or problems with large SysEx files. Even a 850+ dump for the SoundArt Chameleon works fine here on first try. I think the bundle is doing ALL the talk to the CoreAudio of the Mac. Otherwise it would be very easy to depend on the "bundle" folder only if certain Midi interfaces are present.
But an instant crash down of a program like the Voyager if run without the "bundle" folder in the same folder as the application is NOT Mac OS X conform at all. Mac OS X conform does not only mean: "running on Macs with OS X" it does also mean that file handling, interface issues and installation paths are up to the Mac OS X specs. And this isn't like this right now. I think this is a major thing to fix in an version 1.01 of the Voyager Editor.
I am a hobbyist Mac OS X experienced programmer. And I did some Mac OS X tools like the Waldorf Q/mq Manager. I did a Moog Voyager renaming tool (not released) for me to rename sounds faster. See snapshot here:

So I am not a user complaining.

There is a newer version now online that is changed in this detail. Its he same file size and same version number. Therefor I assume its identical in all other details (haven't run a 1:1 comparison of the compiled app code yet). Only the creation date of the Voyager application itself has changed by two days and the whole compressed file on the server changed its name from "voyager_mac.sit" to "voyager_mac2.sit". I wonder why this little bug fix was not announced. I think this prooves very much SoundTower is listening to the users. I bought a licence. And I have a problem using it with my Emagic mt4 MIDI interface. I was told by SoundTower they are aware of the problem and working on this. Until it is not fixed I can't use the software right now at all. Or need to buy a different MIDI interface. Although all other MIDI programms on my Mac have no Problem using this MIDI Interface.... and clicking "Register Online" in the start up splash screen of the Mac version will bring you to the page of the PC version !

So I will have to manage the patch numbers either inside the Voyager till a bug fix is released or use my Hex-Editor to change the SysEx files content I received by the "SysEx Librarian" freeware.

Not now, because it isn't yet working with the Voyager OS 2.5
Or atleast I havn't test it yet to do so.
I will post a link later in the next days.
But It's not (and will not be) a bank manager or a sound editor like the Voyger software from SoundTower.

Main Mac menu disappearing act!
I've experienced the problem with the main Mac menu disappearing under certain circumstances (e.g. bringing up the Voyager panel settings display in the editor window).
Is there a bug fix for this? Also, where can i find editor updates?
As i drink my green tea from my bigbriar minimug!
