Issues with new MP-201

Just received MP-201 from Sam Ash online.

1. The rotary encoder is a little wobbly. Furthermore, when I spin it quickly in one direction, sometimes the values go in the other direction. Is this normal behavior? I had the same problem with the infinite knobs on my XM Radio unit. Seems to be a problem with this kind of knob.

2. I too seem to be experiencing what other have mentioned: that tap tempo on the MP-201 does not behave in the same way as on all my other devices. If I tap in 120 BPM, the MP-201 settles into a groove at 80 BPM.

All of the MP-201s that I've used have been like that.

Hopefully, this will be addressed in the forthcoming update.

Bryan - thank you for the reply.

Moog - a $450 pedal where tap tempo doesn't work? A problem this obvious should have been caught and corrected before the pedal was offered for sale. Failing that, a firmware upgrade should have been issued hours after this problem was verified. Please post a firmware upgrade now.

FWIW, I never had issues with the tap tempo, though others have complained about the implementation. I'm not sure what has happened with the firmware release - it is overdue.

I also wonder why we don't get any update from Amos or anybody from Moog....it's been a while now...

Hi All,

We had to transition to a new firmware programmer for the MP-201, so there has been an unfortunate but unavoidable delay.

We have fixed this bug (a math error caused the unit to do three cycles at the tapped tempo instead of quarter notes), and many other improvements are already completed as well. The problem is, in order to do a final firmware release there are a number of interlocking things which must all be ready at once... and not all of these things are completed yet.

I will write to our engineering team right now, to request more information on what exactly remains to be done and how long until we can expect a new releasable firmware. I know that major progress has been made even this week, so I am hopeful the wait will not be too much longer. I apologise to all of you who are growing impatient... trust me, I want to see the improved firmware in your hands just as much as you do!

Thanks for the update. I had wondered if there was something going on behind the scenes.

I ended up selling my MP-201, but want to get another one of these days. The technology is really exciting.
