FS: Little Phatty Tribute

Post by lanxe » Fri Apr 24, 2009 9:55 am

i am considering selling my TE phatty.....mostly because i have an moog old school now and feel it may be a bit redundant (although i will miss the filter overdrive, midi and patch memory).

anyway, i though i would put it up here to see if anybody was interested. it comes with the nice moog gig bag and original manual. i have the original box, but unless you really want it, it may become a pain to ship (i would rather ship the phatty in the gig bag and in a bigger box.....the display box is not a good shipping container).

$1000 plus shipping seems reasonable to me. its 100% working condition. i never upgraded it, its original factory condition.

email me with any questions. bocookdot7 (AT) yahoo.com

so i got an email about this that looks like a scam - it went like this:
Thanks for the prompt response am quite satisfied with the condition .Am very much interested and i am really okay with the item and i will love to make an instant purchase,so please do withdraw the advert,i don't mind adding an extra $50 for you to take the advert down from craigslist so that i can be rest assured that am in hand of the item would have loved to come take a look my self but i am a very busy man i am sure you understand. I will also like you to know that i will be paying via company certified check, and it will be over night payment due to the distance .You don't need to bother your self with the shipment okay,i will take care of that..............................So i will need you to provide me with the following information to facilitate the mailing of the check.

1.Your full name and address
2.Your mailing address
3.Your phone number.

Once again ,I will like you to know that you will not be responsible for shipping i will have my mover come over as soon as you have cashed the check

Have a nice day
so to be sure, i wrote back with a bunch of mumbo jumbo to see if they would respond - here is what i wrote:
i will take the advert down now.

i just wanted to let you know before you buy this that the quad loop gate isnt triggering the pulse divider (should be an easy fix though).

let me know if this is an issue.
they wrote back saying no problem, just give the address to send the check. no way!

what kind of scam is this? what do they want, to send me a fake check?

I heard about this scam before over here in the Netherlands.

On our own version of EBay called Marktplaats they send the same kind of emails to people who sell different stuff.

What they do is they say that they want to buy it for their nephew or so in Africa and will pay for the shipment whatever the cost.

What happens then is that with your bank account info they will send a payment with a incorrect amount (amount of money is to much).
Then they will ask if you could please pay back the amount of money which icorrectly transferred to your account.

So you do this....and a day after that you will hear from your bank that the whole transaction was incorrect/fake which means that you also lose the money which you send to them to correct their payment.

So...DO NOT RESPONSE TO THEIR MAIL OR GET INTO A DEAL WITH THEM....just leave them be.

We call this Nigerian scam....

yeah, i kind of figured. these guys are crazy. if they wanted to seem more legit, they should say "moog phatty" instead of "your item".....use less generic terms.

What shocks me about this scam is that people are stupid enough to not wait until the check clears before doing anything in the way of a refund!

I think it depends on your bank, but still, would you rather lose 30 bucks or a couple grand?

This happened to a friend of mine as well trying to sell her Yamaha P-200.

You really gotta be careful out there.

Glad to hear you're loving the Voyager OS. I would imagine the two synths would complement each other well. Are you sure you want to sell your Tribute???

Don't sell it. You'll regret it. Take one for the team!

Or something.

Anyways, don't sell it, it's got tons of vibe and history, and it's great and portable for live. Plus, it's got the overdrive....
