Cable Clarification Question for MoogerFoogers

Post by Lengai » Sat Oct 23, 2004 6:05 pm

Hello fellow MoogerFoogers,

I have read the manuals and I think I have this down, but I've read some posts that have me double guessing. My question is: Are you supposed to run Tip/Sleeve (TS) cables for the audio inputs/outputs on the MoogerFoogers and Tip/Ring/Sleeve (TRS) cables for the control voltage patching? That's how I have my rig hooked up.

Please let me know if this is the right cable configuration.

Thanks!

Hi Lengai,

My understanding is that basically you can use mono (TS) cables for everything. The only thing to worry about using TRS (stereo) cables for is CV pedals (e.g. "EP-1"), but they already have TRS plugs on them. The CV pedal itself takes power (+5VDC) from the Ring (the 3rd conductor in the jack). All inputs that COULD be controlled by a pedal will have the 3rd conductor but it doesn't matter if you use it or not. Also of note, if you plug a pedal into any MF that already has a TS cable going into one of it's pedal controllable jacks, the +5VDC will already be shorted and therefore not available to power the pedal.

I'm relatively confident of all this info I have just spouted. Anyone want to confirm or deny?

Thanks for your input. You guys are right. I called and spoke to tech support at Moog about the cabeling. The audio jacks are TS cables and either TS or TRS cables can be used for the CV patching between the Voyager and the MoogerFoogers. Nothing will get harmed using TS or TRS for the CV patching.
