What are your favorite MuRF settings for guitar?

Post by Jeff Hitman » Thu Oct 28, 2004 2:17 pm

Hello all,
I'm brand new here, just got my new MuRF yesterday and have spent about 4 hours with it so far. I am just amazed at how many usable sounds I've found already, yet I know I'm only scratching the surface. I'm wondering if you would like to share your favorite settings so that I can benefit from your research as well. Thanks for your input.

Hi Jeff, my name is Anthony. I'm curious about the same thing. I've got the Ring Mod and Low Pass Filter --love 'em to death-- and was thinking about getting the MURF, but the price tag is steep. Can you describe what kind of effects you're getting with it ? For ex, are you getting Keith Emerson-like sounds, or what ?
I've been on the website, heard some of the examples, but I don't see the big deal.
I'm sure I'm wrong about this, but what effects can you get with the MURF that you can't with anyother device, or that you can't get with the other Moogerfoogers? What does it add to your arsenal ?

Best Regards
Anthony

Wrks great as a drum machine. Seriously. Run a whit noise signal with all the filters off until you find a pattern.

hey guys.

I've got every moogerfooger there and the murf, I can tell you is BADASS.

it can sound like a delay, like a chorus, flange, phase, and like nothing you've ever heard.

I think it's worth the money.

Everyone loves this thing but no one ever posts settings! GRRRRR. Maybe it's just because there are so many knobs it would be too much of a hassle...

Anyway, this is my favorite pedal ever sonically, but I don't use it live yet because I haven't really settled on my settings... I'll find things I love and then never hear them again. We should really consider starting a thread of settings on this board. Anyone with me? I'll start it if there are interested participators...

the murf took me a minute to really enjoy considering i use it with sequenced patterns and it does not hold perfect tempo even when i run a steady pulse in to the tap tempo. eagerly awaiting the step adapter for the solution to this.

beyond that, the same slight variance in tempo is what makes me love this effect. i have used it with noise as a "drum machine",turned around chopped it up and had some great results. the stereo effects is where im havin a blast. i will take a core synth sound, roll off the midrange frequency and run this through mooger combo of my choice with a helping of pure analog overdrive for good measure. then i will roll off the hi and low freq. and run it with the murf stereo outs, with a sweeping effect, mix the two together and this yields some amazing results.

the overdrive on the murf is also a favorite of mine.

95% of my sounds are processed through moogers and i will never stop finding new ways to use these effects.

murf phase setting

Post by dave tweedie » Mon Feb 27, 2006 10:24 am

Hi, Ive just started to use my murf live with guitar, and am highly impressed with the results. i too would like to see some other peoples ideas on this forum, so ill get the ball rollin..

this is a great warm phase type sound, i use for lead playing with a fuzz box.

DRIVE-1o'clock / PATTERN-11 / OUTPUT-1/2 / BANK B / ENV-5 / MIX - 6 / RATE-6 / ALL SLIDERS UP.

not the trippiest of effects i use but my more wierd settings are made with a whole chain of effects and delay pedals, and is a bit too much to explain, but this thing, as you must know, can do some incredible stuff!!

get posting your settings....

i'm a big delay user when i play my guitar and have been wanting to get a murf for a while so i'm curious in hearing how you use the 105 with delays. do you set up multiple delays after the murf and get neat results? anything really unique/unexpected? any info would be appreciated... thanks!

My fave setting at the mo is by using a sound on sound type of delay effect on a gt6(piece of crap) i set the tempo of the delay to the correct rate of the murf,
    (env.2)(pattern11)
create many loops of guitar on top of each other (chords bits of lead, anything that goes! it doesnt need to be that tidy you just need to create a mass of modal sound)
set the sliders to a desired rhythm (their all great)
then slowly turn the effect level from 0 to 10 and the guitar loops become heavenly, all murfed up, very beautiful loops. then go to the bar while the drummer and bassist jump on board!!!!

i use most of the settings with delay, the tap tempo is great!

also try same idea but create white noise by very distorted guitar just play every note on the neck until it sounds like hell. then turn on your murf, and use it as a drum machine very cool sound,

there really is a lot of twisted bleep you can do with this thing,
    good luck
