Voyager piggyback board

Hey There
I have the CP251 and VX351 and mount kit
I was using the power connector to run the cp251 via vx 351.
but was getting electrical buzzing in the fooger signal via the cp 251 powering.
I used a PSU instead to stop this. I was re organizing my studio and wondered if any one else has had this problem?
I was also wondering how do i know if have the piggyback board installed I have a voyager electric blue. Can i check on the os to see if it is installed?
If so what does this do for the vx 351?

any info would be great as can't find the manual for this.

Okay,
Its been commonly known that the power connector generated a lot of noise. I simply power the CP seperately, although it would be wonderful to power them both from the Voyager.

THe Piggyback board comes with the Vx351 and the only way to check and see if it's inatalled is to open the case and look.

But generally I doubt that its in there if theres no Vx351 around there.

I wish I could be more descriptive what to look for but it shoudl be towards the right side and itr should be a circuit that has a ribbon connected to it. Its very small and its sitting on the bigger board.

THats the best that I can do lol. Its nothing in the OS that will tell you. But when you connect the pc cable to the vx351 and theres no power or any voltages coming through, then you know its not in there.

Open the chassis and take a picture of the circuits, post them and we can tell you.

Hey
Do i need to to the front of the housing off or is it in on the back.
I ve had a look and there doesn't appear to be an extra ribbon.
I think at least the lfo's have worked in the past.
Its annoying that there isnt an led indicator on it.
Where do i get this part from?

OPen the back. Theres a ribbon connected to the board towards the right side about the middle. This is the board when the lid comes down. The ribbon shoul dbe connected directly to the board. If theres no little 1 inch thing that the ribbon is attatched to, theres no piggyback board.

Call Moog customer service.

I have tried the VX and it does appear to have an effect.

First you need to know if you require the adapter. You mention you have an Electric Blue Voyager, I think that was about the time they remedied the problem before shipping them. So, email Amos with your serial number or perhaps you can find some info by using the Search Function of the forum.

If you find out you need one (or you want to check yourself), all of the instructions to install are at

Don't use the VX-351 without the adapter board! You need the resistor network to buffer the CV.

Hi,
I have a Select Mahogany Blue #597 and had to wait for it to be made when I ordered it in January (so believe it's a late model).

Based on this fact and the fact that the VX ships with the adapter, I don't think any Voyagers ship with them already installed. I can tell you that my adapter piece is white or light grey and in addition to it being small as EricK mentioned, it's "S" shapped. A male leg and a female leg but it shifts the ribbon to the right.

This is my first attempt at uploading a photo -- pre installation. EricK is also correct that it's in the middle, right portion (right by the MOOG MUSIC INC stamp and the other end of the ribbon goes up to the SCSI(?) connector on top.

THat ribbon that comes down and to the left...theres obviously no piggyback board installed otherwise it would be obvious that the ribbon was connected to something other than the regular board.
If you open your Voyager and it looks like that, then theres no board attatched, but if you have already tried your VX351 and it doesn't work properly, then thats generally because theres no board on there. Customer service will help you.

Here's where I was going wrong (from the VX-351/2 appendix):

If your are using the VX-351 with a Voyager keyboard, the first step is to install the VX-351 output adapter. Refer to the installation guide for this procedure. The output adapter MUST be installed in these units to ensure proper installation of the VX-351.

The RME does not require the VX-351 output adapter to be installed.

Its hard to see.
Is it where the ribbon ends there is another small board that looks like there is two connectors?

That's it. It's just a maybe 1/2" X 1 3/4" board.
It has some components to buffer or isolate the signals. You unplug the ribbon cable from the mother board, install this small daughter board. Then plug the ribbon cable into the daughter board. If you open the back of your Voyager and the ribbon is plugged directly to the mother board, then you don't have the adaptor and need one. (There is one available on KnobTweak, maybe)
The ribbon cable in question is the one right next to that main (colored, non ribbon) power cable in the middle of the picture.

Just be careful when opening and closing the back of your housing that you don't pinch the cabling.
