voyager sucks at sequencing
voyager sucks at sequencing
Just started trying to sequence some basslines. I've read the previous posts and turned down the release and fiddled with the envelope settings and triggering modes. The voyager does something different every other measure. It will leave out notes or play one note over where two should be. I f it didn't change its response each time the same pattern comes around I would think something else. But now as it is I'm thinking about selling the voyager. a new $3,000 synth should be able to sequence simple basslines with no problem.I know many of you will say that that's not what the voyager is best at but still the soundas I've heard, from myself and others, have been barely more inspiring than other cheaper synths and now I find that its terrible at sequencing. Anybody else find a way around the triggering problems?
My simple answer: no, it doesn't. My voyager can play really fast basslines and never miss a note. Fiddling with the various triggering modes does exactly what I expect them to do. Please confirm that you have followed the advice I gave here:

If that doesn't work please report back.

AND how DARE you say ANYTHING bad about the Voyager in THIS forum. What are you some sort of anarchist??? A spy planting LIES to tarnish the gleaming beauty of the GREATEST synthisizer EVER created???
Why don't you go back digital Iraq...
They have a place for FLAME warriors like you. It's called the Gas Station.

I can say that because I bought at 12:30 the night it was released for sale on the big briar site. I'm not completely bashing the synth I didn't have time to write all of what I think about it. In fact I would recomend a voyager to a certain type of player, but not one like me. I'm glad to hear that some of you can get fast basslines because that tells me it could either be something with my synth or sequencer. I was just so frustrated from working for hours to try to get it to play two 1/16 notes in a row and trigger properly. I mean it would trigger properly every other time and I had one measure on a loop trying to get it to trigger correctly.
And as for what I said about not as inspiring, maybe I came into the deal expecting too much, I mean for it to sound as rich as some of those old moog solos, and the fact is I haven't heard that out of a voyager yet, either mine or on recordings. That being said I think it is a good sounding synth but not what I expected and not what I need. It is nice to have if you have an adequate setup and need something to fill that niche that only it can fill. Sorry to make it seem so hateful it wasn't intended that way.

I have not problem playing fast sequences on my MMV AE. I use Cubase SX and E-magic MT-4 USB MIDI interface. I agree with Cruel Hoax it must be something with your MIDI set up. What kind of sequencer are you using, hardware or software? Are you using a MIDI interface if so which? How long MIDI cables are you using? Latest drivers for MIDI interface, sound card, graphic card…
My friend has an MMV PSE and he had some problems with stuck notes and timing instability. It turned out to be his fast but crappy Siemens portable computer and the USB MIDI interface.

if you are starting with no detail like this included pic, then the notes will not playback effectively. use the zoom tool, powerful function. go to the note with a lot of flags! and you will be able to adjust your sequence accodingly, the voyager is great at sequencing! if you have cubase then this should not be a problem i am guesing, being that i have heard of cubase having a drum editor of some sort. I use dp4 atm.
here are some pics.
NO!(use the zoom and 64th notes to sequence)

Detail w/ zoom(exact same sequence with detail)

notes

i use the hightlighted one to draw in notes for the voyager, this is the best way for myself, everyone is different, i am going to teh store, i hope this helps.
