One was acquired.
But they still make pots under their new name.
Oh...interesting! Thanks, Kevin! I see you mentioned Ohmite. ALL their stuff is expensive. Actually, they make high-powered stuff mostly, right? 50 watt+ potentiometers and resistors and the like? Clarostats are probably the cheapest of the brands you mentioned. Very nice pots, though...especially for the money.

Don't know about that no brainer comment
Marshall makes clones of their amps
we are not talking rocket science.
Amps are different than synthesizers, just like TV's are different from synthesizers. More goes into building a synth than what goes into a tube amp...I've rebuilt a tube amp. I would NEVER attempt to rebuild a synth. That's best left to Kevin Lightner.

Thanks for that info Kevin, I noticed that the Clarostats look just like AB pots of old moogs. The last AB pots I bought were about $3.00 each, today we're up to $10.00; considering inflation and about 30 years they are about the same price...

I recently bought a NOS AB pot for eight bucks at the local electronics shop. Great deal, considering it had been in the storage room since God knows when. The price sticker was at least ten years old.

Why would you think it was canned specifically for a Model D reissue?

If not another Model D, there are other things Moog could make:

Hey why not - Moog Electronics (nee Moog Music in Cheektowaga/Buffalo NY after they got out of the musical instrument business) did make a hockey game back in the 80s.

I am dead serious. If you look at the scoreboard you will see the Moog Music logo on it.

The last time I visited the Cheektowaga building it was converted to a huge flea market, and the only hint of its former glory was a Moog hocket game in the gameroom.

Surely the pinball machine would be cheaper than that phone!

Reminds me of a funny story...

One of the guys' wife is upstairs during our rehearsal.

So I'm messing with the minimoog and I dial up a cool "phone ring" sound

We hear footsteps upstairs. Everybody stops when they realize the wife upstairs thinks the phone *IS* ringing. I cue the minimoog again.

"Ring Ring"

Wife picks up phone "Hello?"

"Ring Ring"

"WILL YOU CUT THAT OUT!!!"

The whole band is busting a gut over that one.

Another time, I dialed up a convincing thunderstorm on the Memorymoog. I had been testing over headphones and decided to try it on my studio monitors, complete with subwoofer.

I fooled the family dog - she came running in the room right up to the window, looking for the storm clouds. The family heard it and thought it was real too.

I dialed up a realistic pilot light sound...my dad thought the furnace was needing repair.
