Guitar players that have experience with mooger foogers...

Post by tmjazz » Fri Sep 17, 2004 6:34 pm

Hey! I'm new to the world of synthesizers and was curious if any guitar players had specific recomendations for my first purchase. Like, if you are a guitar player, do you favor any particular model over the other? Would you recommend the Murf over the any other? Right now I'm really interested in experimenting with new sounds, eventhough i've been more of a clean tone kinda guy....

thanks in advance for all help

I only have and have only used the moogerfooger phaser. When I'm not dumb and actually use the correct power supply, it offers a wide range of amazing sounds that I never figured I could get from it. I own a lot of effects and it is undoubtably my favorite. I have an old maestro phaser that I believe was Moog built and the moogerfooger beats it on versatility and sound. If I can get the money to eventually do it, I'd love to get the whole line of 'foogers, which I'm sure is what everyone on this board would love to do. I suggest checking out the soundclips on the pages and reading reviews and see if that particular effect fits your playing style.

all of them.

seriously.

analog delay is my fav of course, then 12stage, then lp filter [own two of each of those two].... ring modulator is kinda weird, but does a killer dual-osc tremellow.

All of the MF series sound pretty standard for the most part. Richer and deeper than Boss, DOD, but not as wild as ZVEX or some other boutique box. Even Electro Harmonix has some wilder pedals. I perfer their ring modulator over the MF-102 for sound quality if each judged on thier own.(not with the CP-251)

The thing thats so outstanding about the Moogerfooger series is designing your own sounds by using CV. The CP-251 really can make any one of the MF's incredible. That's why I use the mooger ring mod more than the Electro Harmonix.

I hate to use this as an example since it's out of production, but with the MF Delay...

I run a square wave LFO going through the CV MIXER from the CP-251 into the TIME input on the MF-104.

Set that to a longish delay time where the notes slapback evenly with each new note,

then using the CV MIXER on the 251, attinuare the LFO signal until the delay pulls the notes down an octive. You get these sort of slapback walking basslines while you play.
