Problem with MP-201 Tap Tempo

Post by GuitarDazza » Thu Nov 20, 2008 9:01 am

I'm not sure if it's by design or I'm doing something wrong, however, when I'm using the tap tempo on the MP-201 to control the LFO rate going into my MF-101, the LFO only stays in time for as long as I'm tapping the button. As soon as I stop tapping the rhythm, the tempo changes and slows down...

Anyone else experienced this problem?

I haven't experienced your issue. Are you using any MIDI gear or are you just using the MF-101 and the MP-201?

make sure that the fpedal mode for that channel (the one with the LFO you are tap-tempo-ing) is NOT set to "rate."

If it is, then vibration, noise or whatnot could be editing the LFo rate with the current pedal position after you stop tapping.
If the fpedal mode is already set to Amount or something, then this isn't the answer... but it's worth checking. Let me know.

I think we are planning some tweaks to tap tempo in the future; for example it doesn't do any averaging now, which makes it harder to get exactly the tempo you want (you have to be more exact yourself). This should make it easier and more fun to use...

Thanks for the feedback. It seems to be working now, and having midi sync is brilliant.

This pedal is box of delights, but the possibilities are so vast it's blowing my noggin'

Hi there
I experience the same problem while I'm trying to sync the MURF
when I tap continuously the unit seems to stay in sync, but when i stop, it slows down,
just as GuitarDazza described
changing FpedalMode didn't help.
Midi sync works just fine though.
Any ideas?

MP201 firmware update Coming Soon, as in the next few weeks now.
Tap Tempo re-written, it will now be a running average, so there should be no tempo change when you stop tapping, as it's already an average of all your taps. The Tap Tempo implementation you're using now, each tap interval is totally "new" as far as the MP is concerned, so a small timing error on your last tap translates to a wrong tempo. The new scheme should be much friendlier in this regard.

More info soon,

Amos

the update includes significant fixes for USB-MIDI performance,
improved Tap Tempo routine,
and "one button at a time" Quad Mode

We are calling it "poly" vs. "mono" Quad mode; "poly" is the current behavior where you can have multiple channels active, "mono" is the mode where turning on a new channel in Quad mode automatically turns off the previous channel.

I'm looking forward to the update :) I just got the mp201 on friday, and Im blown away by how good this thing is. The interface is pretty straight forward, and like the moogerfoogers in my stable, I was able to plug it in and instantly start producing useable sounds. The new level control I have with this is amazing and Ive barely cracked into it! Great pedal and well worth the money!
