New to the RME

Post by soundresearch » Wed Mar 04, 2009 11:14 pm

Hello all!!! I am proud to say I am now a owner of the Rack mount Voyager. Just wondering about some tips, tricks, whatever. I also own the stage LP and the LPF,RM,Delay,Murf,Freqbox, and the 251 moogerfoogers. Any ideas about what I could do this this gear with the voyager? I know my possibilites are limitless, just wondering what my fellow moogers had say. Any patch ideas would be appreciated..Thanks Jude

Jeez! THats a nice system.

Have you tried the "Moog polyphony" yet?

I would try to get the plyohony with the Freqbox and the ringmod all tracking the voyager or try to see exactly how fat you can get the sound.

Id be interested to hear some voyager ran through the overdriven phatty's filter.

Man theres really so much that you can do there! Id like to see some pics!

You could have a look at the break out boxes VX352 and VX351.
The VX352 is specially for the RME.

Have fun.

Yeh, I will try to post some pics soon. I have seen the VX-351 and wondered what I could do with it. To be honest Im not savvy with this stuff so Im just tweeking knobs and throwing cables here and there.Im just learning as I go.But hey,I think that you would agree that thats half the fun.

You are going to have a nice journey through analogue synthesis.

Just don't ever try to combine voltages with a mult is all i can tell you lol.

You have to use Midi to hook up the RME to the phatty, then go into the software and set one for the first voice and one for the second. So either the Voyager or the phatty ill play on the high note or low note depending on which it is set to.

Ive been waiting for someone to do a demo of this but noone has.

Cool I will try that soon. Okay heres my next question, Im trying to run my drumkit through the RME( is this possible?). Im putting my microphone into the external audio in jack and Im still not getting sounds from my kit. What am I doing wrong? Do I need to configure this somehow in the panel? thanks

You have to make sure that you have the switch turned on and that you get a level going in. If you change presets you generally have to reset the settings because on the presets the mixer on switch is closed.

Also, if you are JUST trying to process the sounds, you need to flip the external switch on that is below the envelope generator, this way your VCA is all the way open all the time. I think you left this switch closed so if your drums are being processed through the mixer, you can't hear it because no keyboard voltage is opening the VCA gate.

you might not have a hot enough signal coming from the mic into the RME extaudio in....do you have a preamp you can use to boost the signal?

Try putting the volume envelope's sustain and decay settings all the way open.

Hi Jude,

Congrats on the Moog gear pile! For ideas on what you might be able to do with all of it, check out some of the stuff on KnobTweak. There's a lot of good info posted there to give you ideas. Here are just a few specific things on KnobTweak that you should check out:

For the Ring Mod: take a look at the "Lord of the Ring (Modulator)" article, which explains the Ring Mod in great detail and shows how you can make the best use of it with the Voyager.

For the CP-251: look in the CP-251 folder for techniques, ideas and tips on using the CP-251 to get different LFO waves, invert the Voyager keyboard, and do other cool stuff.

For the MuRF: there's three pages of MuRF settings, info on pattern variation, and other related MuRF info.

For general assistance: try the FAQ database - it might answer your basic questions on any piece of Moog gear.

There's much more, of course, but this will certainly get you started down the road to Moog-bliss with all that gear.

Cheers!

- Greg

Cool, I will try that. What puzzles me is that the mixer / external section is showing a strong signal. Thanks for the reply Mark
