Adding Modules to the Voyager
Adding Modules to the Voyager
OK, say you have a Voyager, CP-251 and VX-351, and you want it to be the "basis of a modular system." What (3rd party) modules would you add? I was thinking it would be nice to have an extra EG, maybe a different filter or another VCO. Maybe I want to rackmount them above/below the CP/VX....suggestions, anyone? And please, no modular synth brand flame wars, just looking for module types, thanks!

Me, I would (will†) add:
Frequency shifter,
phaser,
waveshaper (underrated!),
additional different-sounding filter modules (especially notch filter)
another waveshaper
wavetable playback module (yes, they exist!)
sequencer
These are most of the things on my "mmm-Tasty!" list.

A few things to check out...
Blacet:
Mini-Wave http://blacet.com/MW.html
Binary Zone http://blacet.com/BZ.html
Time Machine http://blacet.com/TM2050.html
Very little time to get a module from them.
You may want to convert those Frack Rack 1/8" jacks to thw 1/4" MOTM format. Then look into some...
http://synthtech.com/
Awesome modules also know as MOTM
Then move up to the $20,000 stuff...

Why? Is Blacet going out of business?
Regarding the addition of modules, don't forget that rack mount equipment such as the Sherman Filter bank and the Electrix Filter Factory (and Filter Queen) can be used to further modify the Voyager's sound. For example, the Filter Factory can take control voltages from the Voyager and operate like a multi-mode VCF. Placing this into the Voyager's mix out loop can add immensely to the sonic potential. (Actually, any effect processor/pedal can be used in this manner. My suggestion is to try anything and everything).

Currently I am thinking of adding an extra VCO-VCF-EG-VCA, as well as some interesting control modules, like a Ring Mod or signal processing. I am leaning toward synthesizers.com stuff because of the form factor (1/4 plugs) and price. I also kinda like the Doepfer stuff and all their variety, but would need a lot of adapters because of their 1/8 plugs. But right now I am not ruling out anything....there's just so much choice now!
Dear Marzzz.
I went with Synthesizers.com. Added 2 vco's, multi mode filter, fixed filter bank, 2 eg's, ring mod, signal processor, mixer and vca to my Voyager/cp-251/vx-351 set up. In short - I'm very happy with this arrangement. I used the moog model 15 as a guide. Already looking to expand though.

I spoke to Don Buchla the other day and he said it should be no problem to add some of his system 200e modules to the Voyager via the 351 and 251. Check out some of the Buchla system 200e modules there are some very good descriptions of what they will do on the website. They sound very wild with names like the "Dual Arbitrary Function Generator", and the "Source of Uncertainty" Modules. He will create a power-supply "boat" as he called it, which will allow room for several modules and several expansions, and its not $20,000. You can add on as you can afford them. Wow! Moog and Buchla together in one synth!!!
