:) Nice to see someone else has an S50 and S550. Do you have the CD-ROM and hard drive on the 550 ? How about the sequencing software and the Data tablet ?

You don't see too many of th AlphaSyntauri's around. Kind of wish I had picked one up on the early 80's :)

Nice rig

That's all the old stuff - I don't think I had a CD-ROM for the S-550 and that might be why I moved to an Akai, but I did have the mouse (an MSX item!) and the digitising tablet and Atari monitor connected to the S50 which looked like a baby Fairlight. The digitiser was the same part as my old Pioneer PX-7 MSX (Laserdisc/Genlock model, weird thing).

The AlphaSyntauri I sold to a museum in Bletchley Park; didn't realise who it was otherwise I'd have donated it, but I needed the space and money at the time. Keyboard was a P&R mechanism and was beautiful to play after I rebushed it - in fact, the sound of the primitive wavetable synth was quite remarkable. Sadly, it was quite noisy electrically.

That's quite a collection!
I didn't own ALL of that at once, there's a crossover - for example, there'd be a chain from 2001 to now of:

Korg Trinity Pro X - SOLO
GEM Equinox 88
Korg T1
Korg Trinity Pro X V3

Likewise, the samplers went:

Roland S50; then joined by S550
Then Akai S1000
Then I got the AX73 and wanted the S900 to connect to it
Then I sold the S1000, then the AX73 and S900
Then I was given the CD3000XL

Now I don't need the CD3000 - my V-Synth does what I wanted a sampler to do.

However, you use the word "collection" there, and it's the point I'm making with the lists; all that lot has been owned mostly over an 8 year period and all I've been doing is collecting, I haven't recorded anything or if I'm honest, really enjoyed any of the kit past the honeymoon period. The only synths I really liked were my JD800, the Waldorf when it wasn't blowing my speakers up, the Moogs and inevitably the Korg Wavestation keyboard and Trinitys; and the D50, but the V-Synth does that now.

I don't want to be a collector. I want to play music.

FWIW, I also do this with other stuff; I've owned 125 cars, and last year decided I had had enough of this (I worked out that since I started driving in 1992, I had lost over £140,000 on cars) and I would just buy my "perfect" car, new with a warranty, and keep it until it falls apart - no matter how much it cost, it would be cheaper than that experience. So I now have a Citroën C6 V6 diesel.

And old computers... gah. I can't even imagine how many of those I've had. I had 80 at one time, but I think over the course of nearly 20 years of collecting, I've owned well over 400 of them. What do I do with them? Play, and then put them away. I've now cut that down to my favourite computer of the 80s outside of Apple and have three Enterprises (64 and 128 x 2, 64 is boxed), a few boxed Commodore, Sinclair and Atari machines, and a Jupter ACE needing repairs (and a Sharp MX80K under my desk I don't have the heart to throw out).

Enough with the collecting stuff. Time instead of learn how to use it properly. If I get another classic car, I will learn how to restore it instead of giving up in frustration. I will learn how to master complex patches on my Moog using the expansions. I will learn how to properly diagnose and repair my old machines.

Also, I have moved from a 10-bedroom house in Scotland to a large but 2-bedroom place. Kinda puts a cramp on the ol' collection habits...

I thought I was bad! Well, I am, but I have nothing on RichardK! Although I'm a lot younger than him. I started driving in '00 and am buying my sixth car today.
Minitaur, CP-251, EHX #1 Echo, EHX Space Drums/Crash Pads, QSC GX-3, Pyramid stereo power amp, Miracle Pianos, Walking Stick ribbon controller, Synthutron.com, 1983 Hammond organ, dot com modular.

Eh, I personally wish I'd just learned how to play a couple of them really well ;)

As for the cars - I got cured by buying my dream car. I don't think the Citroën C6 has escaped Europe much though (IIRC they're sold in NZ/Australia, but for a ludicrous price, and not so much "sold" as "offered").

Finally got some pics of my studio up. Loving the CP-251, been using it to make slow filter changes and so forth.

Yes I wouldnt mind the clavinet+a mellotron to make it complete 8)
(Once upon a time I had a clavinet and sold it......mistake)

I also had the minimoog model D long time ago and sold it as well as the clavinet.

I always missed the moog and I was very happy when Bob Moog start to sell the Voyager. I bought one in 2003. Its a wonderful synthesizer like nothing else.
The dotcom was finished in 2007(bought in steps from 2006-2007)
Now I try to find the best way to combine them for best results.

Nice pics! I used to think the ultimate synth woudl have been the Voyager with the V-synth rack. I see you have it.

Frankensynth I called it.
