Pro Tools & The LP FATLE ERROR KEYBOARD OVER RUN.
Hi Guys,
I seem to be running in to a major problem with the LP and Pro Tools. I am running new ver of PT 8, and the LP is locking up with FATLE ERROR KEYBOARD OVER RUN. This is happening on USB and DIN with all merge turned off. This problem was happening also when I was running PT 7.4cs7, and we all know it will be a short time before digidesign bring out a CS up date for 8. But when I contacted Moog customer support they told me they have been having lots of reports back with problems with LP and Pro Tools try another DAW. Well this is great advice and all, but that is kind how I work, and it just midi isn't it? And the problem seems to lie with Moog not Pro Tools, as my Virus TI is running no problems.
This is really starting to bum me out as tech problems like this can put a real downer on the day. I would really apprecate your feed back, and if you are having any of these problems.
All the best E.N

Some things to try...
1) Disable clock if it's being sent from Pro Tools. I've run into problems where "too much clock" can be on the MIDI pipe and mess up instruments (overload them) - Clavia stuff has this problem in my experience. It can also happen if more than one device is transmitting clock at the same time - other devices can get overloaded.
2) Setup a way to record whatever MIDI Pro Tools is sending out. If you have to, loop it back into your computer and record it using any of the many available MIDI monitoring tools just to actually see what is going on. This might help to see what is happening.
3) Turn off continuous controller data and anything else that can hog MIDI bandwidth (and ultimately buffer space). You may need to adjust settings on multiple devices to make sure this isn't a problem. For example, a synth might be sending continuous controller data just because the mod wheel is not all the way in the zero position which could flood the MIDI stream.
4) All of these ideas really boil down to isolation. Plug the LP into the computer directly either via USB or MIDI and don't have ANY other MIDI devices in the chain at all - totally disconnect them.
Good luck!

Cheers for the tips. I tried disconecting everything with just the LP and tools running, and Beat clock off. Sadly hit the same Problem. All mod controls down, and all other midi parameters off bar note value. I have yet to see loop it back into your computer and record it using a MIDI monitoring tool. That will be my next step.
The bright side of this is, I thought sod it, turn off the computer and use my MPC as a sequencer. This is something I have been meaning to do for quite sometime now, as I sit looking at tools all day and it just feels like more work. Music should be fun right? The Puzzel to get it all to work togther is part of the fun, but f**k it can kill the creative momment stone dead. So I got my Jomox 999, elektron, mpc, 101, virus, Kads etc and just had some fun with machines. I think I forgot that what it's all about.
Many thanks for your input, and when I have five I will try looping the midi back to find the source of the error with LP. This does not happen with Abelton, yet as good as it is, I can use Tools with out having to think too much. So much for that way of thinking. Pro Tools 8 has a lot of new stuff, but I fear it is chewing more CPU, but that is another story

Good luck with figuring it out.
Speaking of breaking free from the computer...I just picked up a Monomachine to match my Machinedrum and have been jamming with just my Little Phatty and the MnM - it's nice. I've read a few things lately (and realized myself) that too many choices can stifle. Limiting yourself to just a few pieces of gear can really make you (or at least me) more creative and productive. I'm digging it.

I think I found the LP Fatel error problem. Resetting the digi Input filter seem ro fix the problem. Although I still dont know what caused it, so this could happen again, and when a friend came over to give me his ten cents worth, I was able to figure it out by myself. I also ran a shorter USB lead, so this might have helped also.
Good to see you have had fun with the Mono machine. I just sold mine to get a Jomox 999. Just before I sent it to it's new home I turned it on, and went through some old patterns I made, and thought, bleep this is a really good machine why am selling it? for 4 analog drum sounds? Yea 4 kick ass simple sounds. Too many choices can be a big problem for idea's and the keep It simple stupid (KISS Plan.) works for me.
Thanks for your input, and if I get any other idea's to fix this problem I will post my experences in running LP with Pro Tools.

Interesting fix - maybe the USB cable was not up to par. I always wonder with long cables like that if they are sitting to close to a power supply (wall wart) if interference might occur now and then. Most of our workspaces have more cables than we know what to do with I imagine.
Yea, I'm enjoying the MnM - I think I've decided to just the Elektron and Moog gear for a few tunes to see how it goes. I really enjoy the programming aspect of getting a tune arranged on the MnM (aka: The Mind) then using the Moogs to solo over it (aka: The Heart) - they seem to go together quite well.
