MURF sync SOS

Post by swaglamp » Sat Sep 04, 2004 12:06 pm

Can the rate of the MURF be sync'd to CV ?
This question has been raised earlier in this forum, but left unanswered. At the very least could someone at moog respond?
Thanks

You can sync the MuRF w/ an analog clock signal sent to the tap tempo input - the way this input works, a +2.3 V ttl signal (like a gate or a square wave) acts like stepping on the switch - thus you'd need 3 of these signals equally spaced in time to set the rate of the MuRF's patterns. The MuRF's patterns proceed at twice the tempo "tapped" in. You can use an LFO signal from the Minimoog Voyager (VX-351), MF-102, MF-103 (a triangle wave works too - maybe not right on the beat though...), or CP-251. A voyager gate signal works well too (note both Voyager's LFO and both envelopes can be triggered by MIDI clock signal...), as well as most MIDI to CV-converters.
As far as using an audio click track, it depends - any complex attack transients will confuse the tap tempo counter.
If you have a spare MIDI track and a MIDI to CV converter, you can create a MuRF timing track, complete with tempo changes. Note that this means of syncing isn't "instantaneous" - it requires three timed sync signals to set the tempo of the MuRF's patterns, so it requires some planning with this timing track.

Hope this helps
