Ribbon Controllers?
Ribbon Controllers?
Hi
Is anyone using a ribbon Controller with their Voyagers? I am nt sure if there are Moog Ribbon controllers out there, but I think Doepfer make them. Can you use any Ribbon Controller with a Voyager, and if so, how would that work? Does anyone know any compatible products?
Thanks
Martin

There is two vintage Moog ribbon controllers, made by the old Buffalo Moog, never the current company. They are models 956 and 1130 but neither will work with the Voyager without modification.
A MIDI ribbon controller would be the better option for the Voyager. Kurzweil has (had?) an Expressionmate ribbon controller that produces MIDI data.
I have an Alesis Andromeda with a ribbon controller that can also generate MIDI data.

heh what about the 3d ribbon controller already on the voyager.
thats basically what the touchscreen is. if you look closely its made up of a grid of ribbon controllers. unless those ribs are just for looks. i guess i could be wrong heh. anyway even if I'm wrong it works like a ribbon controller.especially if you disable one or two of the parameters of the touch controller. but thats just silly.
my point. the touch screen is way more versatile anyway, so why would you want a classic ribbon controller ,well unless you want go mobile with it to look cool.

Thanks... I think the Touch screen is just not very playable, I am having difficulties getting to grips with the position of the thng. that's why I was wondering if anyone knew a more playable RC than the TS. i think the touchscreen is fun, but it is just not easy to play a real melody on it. I was thinking of the Doepfer models. does anyone own one and have experience with them in connection with the voyager?

Actually the 1130 is the DRUM controller. I have two for my Model D.MC wrote:There is two vintage Moog ribbon controllers, made by the old Buffalo Moog, never the current company. They are models 956 and 1130 but neither will work with the Voyager without modification.
Yes, unfortunately the ExpressionMate has been discontinued. It is actually very cool, if you can find one on the used market. In the studio I use it with the Model D when guitar players want to play the Moog, but are put off by black and white keysMC wrote:Kurzweil has (had?) an Expressionmate ribbon controller that produces MIDI data.

ribbon controllers
Hi! i posted this same info under the homemade controllers forum. Then i run across this one...
Hi! i felt i should share with you guys my latest aquired toy, the walking stick 20" cv ribbon controller w/ a scale control of 1-10 octaves (for pitch) / 1-5v. (for filter/cv... ) It is hand made, but not by me. It is fantastic, moog fans here will appreciate the trs wiring that draws power from any moog expression pedal input.
These just came out, and the maker can be reached @ http://members.cox.net/ribboncontrollers/
(there are photo's there as well, i couldn't get mine to load on the forum reply box.)
It has blown my mind, i used a KP3 (in midi control mode) with my little phatty thinking i could do what a dedicated cv ribbon could do. all 3" of touch surface....
For instance, if i plug the ribbon into the powered input (red/white) (non-attenuated, ribbon has attenuator built in!) jacks of the mixer on the CP-251, and mix in lfo 25%, s/h 35%, noise 10%, mix control 100% up, offset under 50%, and the little phatty has the low-pass half way closed, with a arppegiated pad from a jupiter6 - or any poly synth- fed into the external input, you can now touch anywhere on the upper portion of the ribbon to do stutter/pad into's with your bass line untouched, or slowly sweep the filter bringing your atmospheric pad into the mix.
What makes it so crazy for me , with 20" to play with any arp./ seq. starts to take on a "on the run" feel to it now with so much room between voltage values. i couldn't have a robot turn the filter potentiometer with such precision and accuracy.
seriously, imagine a ribbon controller in your head, but more responsive and tactile then you thought possible, and the walking stick emerges from the fog... count me in as a big fan!

Here it is: http://www.doepfer.demartin wrote: Is anyone using a ribbon Controller with their Voyagers? ... Does anyone know any compatible products?
there you go to R2M Midi Ribbon Controller page, OR here:
http://www.schneidersbuero.de/index.php ... URO_BRUTTO
It is professional, proven and works with Voyager via both midi and/or CV. Simply the great.
Notes:
- It is different thing from touch screen, I'm agree with you here. And more precise, by the way.
- Can (and should!) be fixed on top of keyb (there is a label);
- Here is a video of such a thing: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3EJtgnQa4sY
- My favourite here, anyhow, is ... KORG KaossPad (KP), midi.
Voyager EB, VX-351, CP-251, Moogerfoogers, Theremin standard, Theremin Plus
DSI Prophet '08, Korg KARMA w/MOSS, Arturia Origin

MC,
You could control the Voyager with an Old Moog Ribbon without modification provided that you had a vintage Synth (Micro, Satellite, Sonic 6, Model D) with an accessory port. THen the gate and scale jacks would go in the Voyager. So yeah, it would need modification if you don't happen to have any of those old synths.
Figs,
I have an 1130 and I love it, though the paint is flaking off. It lives in a box because I never use it. THe First time I saw one on Ebay, I about shot a brick. THe second time I saw one I bought it for like 300 bucks lol. SOmething like that. It works fine but the scale knob needs some tweaking to get the kinks of 25 years out of it.
I hooked the power to the Micro and controlled the Voyager and the Micro with them together.
