MMV Signature Backlight.

Post by vegasdodger » Mon Aug 30, 2004 12:10 pm

I wonder if the blue backlit panel will be available as a retrofit for the Voyager Signature. It must be possible to keep the original front panel intact, especially if the factory performs the installation. Not looking for the full AE conversion i.e. the wood etc. Just that gorgeous panel. How do you think that would effect value? Especially if the factory could perform an unistallation on it?? It would be nice to have that option. Has anyone looked into this?

They offer a retrofit for SE units but you lose the SE serial # and Bob's signature on the front panel. Basically they replace the hinged metal chassis and transfer the boards from your SE. They also replace the right hand endpanel next to the keyboard with one that has a dimmer control for the backlights.

I recall at least one SE owner here that did get a retrofit.

You can't retrofit the SE chassis because you need the slots punched out underneath the legends so that the backlight can shine through.

Yeah that backlight panel looks gorgeous but I'd rather get the AE unit than sacrifice the serial # on my SE. Money isn't working that way this year...

I can see the dilema though

I can definitely see the dilema, the coolness factor (and practicality of seeing the panel) or keeping it original. I have a pretty low serial, and I'd hate to see my future grandkids drag the thing down to "Antiques Roadshow 2099" and have them say "If only he kept it in it's original state" LOL. Hmmmm
