Hello Moogsters and Moogettes,
I have been experimenting with linking my LP to a Kurzweil ME1 (a neat little piano and pad module) for live use with my band. I've linked the LP to the ME1 via midi out from the LP, which allows me to use just the LP's keyboard to trigger both the LP and the ME1. My issues is that I'm experiencing a kind of high-pitched static type noise when I turn the LP's mod wheel or any of the other control knobs. Through an amp playing live it isn't really noticeable, but for recording it could be a problem. When I link the LP and the ME1 at home using the midi in and out of my soundcard (so the LP goes to soundcard and then the ME1 rather than to the ME1 direct) I don't get this interference, which is good. But can anyone think of anything I could fiddle with on the LP to stop the static when going straight into the ME1. I'm presuming its something to do with the amount of data the LP is sending, which is too much for the ME1 to cope with when sent straight to it, but I don't know. Thanks, in advance, for your help.
Midi noise issue linking LP to Kurzweil ME1
in firmware version 2.1 or whatever we end up calling the next one, there will be an option to limit all MIDI output to 7-bits. Right now the mod wheel puts out 14-bit MIDI data at a very fast rate, which is probably too much for the little ME1 module to handle.
The computer setup you describe probably filters out this extra data from what gets passed to the module.
So, there will be an in-built fix, before too terribly long... not sure exactly when this will be ready yet.
