Hello! Just returned from vacation and spending more time with my AE

I have a question about how to route effects without the add-on boards (vx or cp). I have this old space echo 201 here and wanted to hear my moog through it. I have been doing my moog with zero effects until now. The space echo has several instrument jacks for inputs and an output jack. In the manual there is a section that talks about inserting an effect in the mix out/filter jack. So I picked up a send return cable (stereo 1/4" jack to 2 1/4" plugs), plugged the stereo plug in to the mix out/filter jack, the ring to output, and the tip to an instrument jack (ring and tip are two separate cables). I hear the effect just fine. Is this how you guys insert effects? What if I wanted to add another effect? How would I go about cabling it? Yes, I am yet still a noob

Hello,
The Roland Space echos are pretty good and are not that easy to find.
The location in which you position the effect depends on whether you want
the effect to be filtered or not. It seems the way you have it now, the effect
is being fed through the filter. If the sound works for you, thats what counts.
Although this is one way of doing things and delays can be used as tools for synthesis (although delays with voltage control work better for this),
it is a bit more conventional to place time-based effects toward or at the end of a signal chain.
Another possibility is to feed the Voyager's main out (mono or stereo) thru
the 201 and that would allow you to position another device between the
Voyager's mixer and filter.
Multiple devices can be chained at either location, its simply a matter of
wanting a particular effect to appear pre-filter or post-main outs.
