Patch Bays

Post by gaspode » Mon Aug 09, 2004 1:29 pm

Hey all... been using the Voyager for a while now, but have just been putting the MF/VX/CP to work.

Anywho... I built a box to mount all the modules, and was planning on using a patch bay to route all of the CV/Gates from the Voyager to be located right next to the other modules inputs (thus making the use of 1' or so cables doable)...

However, what I have found is that, for example, if I plug the 1/4" cable from the Volume CV to the Patch Bay, it is apparently grounding the signal and I am not getting any output from my unit. To test that it is a proper connection, I routed an LFO signal to the Volume CV, through the Patch Bay... and suddenly it is playing the sound... albiet with the LFO modulating the volume sourse.

So this isn't really the desired effect. What I had been hoping for was that I'd be able to leave the CV/Gates plugged into the voyager and connected to the patch bay, but without any (or little) effect on the actual performance of the Voyager, and then when I needed to patch in something it wouldn't be a big deal.

So, is this even possible? Do you need to use tip ring sleeve cables and use a compatible Patch Bay? I've got the Furman PB-40 and I would've figured this would have been a fine solution, but it turns out I was wrong.

Hopefully some of you might have some suggestions. Thanks for your time!

Greg
