Current Voyager Mods/Upgrades-What's Available?

Post by Jazzpunk » Wed Aug 13, 2008 4:07 pm

I saw a Voyager that was described as having the 'Filter Overdrive' and 'Snappy Envelopes' mods done at the Moog factory.

Are these modifications that bring older Voyagers up to current specs or are these additional features that even the newest Voyagers do not come with?

Are there any additional modifications that are not included when one purchases a new Moog?

Filter Overdrive:

Plug the Voyagers right output (literally) back into its input! No need for a mod for this trick!!l :)

Snappy Envelopes:

A design feature (or flaw in some peoples minds  ) of the Moog Envelope since day one!

BTW, glad to hear you're going for a Voyager Jazzpunk! :D You won't be disappointed!!

Cheers,

Thanks for the response glyph. I'm still confused though, are these mods for older Voyagers or are they additional mods that even the newest Voyager will not have?

Any links to more info on these mods?

I never heard about this mods.
All Voyagers got a real snappy envelope.
And the filter is overdrived via puting in to much volume in the mixer section or by boosting it even more with the feedback loop (just like on the original Minimoog).

There is a mod for older Voyagers that do not track the gliding on the filter keyboard control. But this is nothing you will miss all the time. I never missed it.

There is a so called "after touch fix". This is a mod for way better aftertouch response for all older Voyagers. Without this, you had a on/off like scaling only.

The "Hardware 3.x" mod/update gives old Voyagers the 7 sound storage baks as the new ones.

The later two are also available as parts for in the field upgrade. Very recommended if you do not live in the USA or if you don't trust UPS and others.
keep on turning these Moog knobs

Prodigy * minimoog '79 * Voyager * MF102 * MF103 * MF104z * MP201 * Taurus 3 * Minitaur * Sub Phatty * MF105 * Minimoog 2017+ MUSE * One 16 (sold)

Guess these 'mods' don't actually exist. I followed up by e-mailing Moog directly but they didn't even bother with a response.

Heard back from Amos and it appears that these mods do exist though he wasnt sure about how many times Moog has actually had requests to do them.

I don't think I will need them but it is interesting to know the options exist nontheless.

Any time I try this I find it hard to get a good level of overload; it's either not there or obnoxious. The function on the phatty sounds awesome, though.
