Little Phatty rear panels

Post by Voltor07 » Thu Jun 26, 2008 4:10 am

I had an idea that started when the LP Stage2 was released. After asking fellow LP owners (and owner wannabes) in my hometown what they thought, I thought I would see what everyone here thought. I was thinking...what about switchable back panels in different colors? They'd cost no more than 100 USD, and would be offered in a variety of colors and patterns, such as green, blue, purple, camouflage, red, or for an upcharge, have your own design put on. Please don't hurt me if this is a stupid idea. I'm also thinking of putting bird's eye maple sides on my Stage.

I have a friend who does wood work as a hobby. He said he would LOVE to make wood side panels for me. I am working on getting the hardware upgrade for my Stage, and after I get that, I'll order the wood. www.bellforestproducts.com seems to have some good deals on rare and exotic wood, though I don't know how the wood is sourced.

Purple would look really cool, and it seems we are the only two people on the forum who think so! I myself would love a camouflage back panel. 8)

Anyways, would anyone else be interested in a colored back panel for their Phatty? Perhaps a black one for their Stage I? Any other takers out there? :)

Yes, Tangent UK, I am fully aware of the Italian wood side panels coming from Italy. However, me being from the USA, getting them here would be more of a hassel than having my buddy make them. I hate dealing with U.S. customs...not to mention the shipping rate.

Kinda off topic, but on topic....

I thought that a brushed aluminum back panel would look AWESOME on the Voyager Old School !

Because it would make it look more like a Model D on stage and it would also be easier for synth dorks like me to distinguish one from the other, when you see it in a performance.....

I suggested it and they said that it would just mean having to stock another part, which would bring costs up!

So, on topic - this probably WONT happen for the LP.. But it would be an awesome idea..

If they did it, I'd want a thick illuminated plexiglass with LEDs imbedded in the plastic that are CV to the LFO and/or ADSR !!!

Imagine the back of the phatty illuminating itself as you play it !!

Thats what my Model D wheels do !! RGB too, so can have ANY color wheel i want !!!!

This would be another good idea for fancy mod... A pair of CV controled, multi colored pitch wheels.. When the Mod wheel does up, they start flashing at the rate of modulation...

:)

Kevin Lightner and Amos could collaborate and build an amazing circuit !!!

My friend had a similar idea...a light up MOOG logo in a frosty acrylic back. You could even choose the color(s) you would want following the Voyager Select backlight options.
