Voyager Gig Bag or ATA Case?

Hi,

I should get some protective case for my Voyager when I take it to my buddy's crib, so it don't get (at least) cooked in the sun in my back seat, etc. Anyone know how well padded the soft case is? Ordinarily I'd go for the hard case, but it costs a lot of $$$. The softy's like 3x less.

The gig bag isn't well padded, but its ok for keeping it covered up in my room! Go for the solid case and protect your investment!

I bought one because of the outrageous prices for the hardcases, but feel almost reluctant to use it for band practices etc. Has anybody had any problems with bent knobs or keys when carrying the gig back on their back?

I've transported mine in the gig bag without any problems. While it's not as protective as a hard shell case, it does offer some protection from light bumps . The main thing is it provides a fairly safe way to move it from home to the car, then into the location you are playing. The front pocket has plenty of room for the power cable, and a few audio cables. Plus the logo looks very cool.


If you are going to be traveling long distances or will not be loading and unloading things your self, you may want to look into the hard shell cases, but I think for local travel the gig bag works well, especially if you use a little caution and common sense while caring it .

I can see how that would happen. I wouldn't personally carry it on by back too often. I presume it has something to do with the two straps in there, when pulled too tight it can depress the keys, and when the bag is rotated sideways, it would put excessive strain on the nearby keys, and cause them to bend.

I just recently purchased the molded ATA moog case. Must say it's large, but very well designed. Perfect fit, ample space for cords and multiple patch cables, and the pull-out handle extends/locks nicely while feeling strong. I went back and forth between the bag and finally decided that my $2500 investment warranted spending the extra $200 on a case. It actually rolls well with its wheels and has a comfortable carrying handle that raises up from flush to go up stairs + a nice Moog logo. I must admit that I'd rather spend the money on gear that will add to my sound, but I would feel terrible if I snapped off a couple knobs. A month after buying the case, I feel good about it and have begun strapping other gear to the case to take advantage of the rolling wheels.

I agree with using the hard case. Your synth is going to be worth a lot more than you paid for it in the years to come (as long as you treat it with TLC). Consider the hard case insurance for your investment. It is bulky, but it is also well padded and has wheels and a handle.

I bought the more expensive hard case with the Moog logo on it so I haven't seen the regular, molded ATA case. It sounds like you travel and gig with your synth so you may want to look into the more expensive case because it has heavy duty key lock clasps so you don't have to worry about some punk stealing your Voyager.

It is an expensive case, but considering what you're putting in it I would invest in it. The peace of mind is worth it.
