"THAN YE BOBU"

Post by moogslob » Mon May 05, 2008 7:58 am

...is an example of the screen readout after I've been playing for a while- Everything else still functions normally and I'm able to save patch edits, but the names and function readouts get garbled- Is this a precurcor to a middle-of-the-gig crash, or just a harmless OS quirk? Any thoughts?

thanks!

:) Its old English for "Thank You Bub"...

Ok, all joking aside here is my opinion (not facts because I haven't seen the internals nor schematics for a LP).....

Most LCD displays have driver boards which generate the characters (alphabets and numbers) and contain the backlighting for the LCD.

If there is some problem with that board it will display garbled characters/messages. Usually, the messages are sent these boards (either serially or sometimes using a parallel interface) from a CPU. Its functions, typically, are independent of this CPU.

I would assume it is only that board considering that the LP functions normally otherwise.

Thanks for the quick reply!
What you're saying makes sense- I've only noticed the character change by sight, not sound- There's no hiccup on a held note when "you" goes to "ye"- I guess for now I'm not going to worry about it, because if it's the physical readout board, I'd assume fixing it would mean RMAing it, and I have too many needs for this synth right now for it to be off getting serviced...

I have seen this exact problem and wrote to Amos about it some time early last
year. It seemed to happen when the LP was left on for more than a few hours.

However, since I moved house and now my LP is on a 15 amp mains loop,
the problem has not come back. In all cases I have been on the latest firmware
1.03c on the tribute.

I just played a day gig and it went garble-speak- I'm not used to the luxury of presets in a Moog, so it wasn't a problem, just wierd- As long as this isn't a symptom of something that is going to affect the PLAYING of this delicious sounding machine.... And so far, I haven't left it on for more than 2-3 hours at a time- It's at 1.03 rev- Do you think a factory default might make any difference?
thanks!

Well, I left her on for an extended length of time, and the problem went away, and hasn't come back :!:
