Visual Sound 1 Spot or Godlyke Power-all?
Visual Sound 1 Spot or Godlyke Power-all?
Hi,
I'm looking to buy one of these power supplies that can deliver DC power to many 9V pedals. I'm leaning towards the 1 Spot because it seems like it can power more devices (and I have quite a few pedals and gadgets) but actually I'm confused about the milliamperage because they both seem to supply 1700 milliamps but the Godlyke is elsewhere said to offer only 800 or 1000 milliamp...
Is there a difference? Are there preferences?
thanks,
Bentropy

Other... Pedal power 2 plus by Voodoo Lab. The power all and 1 spot are providing power to all of the pedals you want, however it is still only one source for all pedals, which means noise problems. For the price it gets the job done, but not well.
The PP2P has isolated power outlets for each pedal, meaning no noise. There are also other advantages, like the SAG control to reduce the voltage going to a pedal, like a dying battery etc. I have hooked up many pedals through this unit, and am completley satisfied.

Vibration emanates from all things, even nothing. Using awareness to translate vibration into "music" is something that I am whole heartedly grateful for.

so I have both the pedal power and the one spot and here's what I can tell you. The one spot you will need to get a reverse polarity adaptor (which you'll have to custom order from voodoo labs if you get the pedal power) but the one spot says on the package that if you use the reverse polarity adaptor for a moogerfooger then you can only power one moogerfooger at a time, essentially negating the usefullness of powering mulitple pedals. The pedal power on the other hand has powered my four moogerfoogers at once for quite some time and has done it really well. It's a much more expensive proposition than the one spot but you spent all that money on the moogerfoogers and so now it's time to spend a little more !!! (LOL) If you're tyring to power multiple pedals then the only way to go is the pedal power. You'll end up buying one, one spot per moogerfooger otherwise.
I use a 1 Spot and was unaware of the "One Moogerfooger Per One Spot" (OMPOS?) issue...I did order the reverse-polarity (and a few other) adapters from their web site and got them quickly. Since I only have 1 MF this would have been a lesson learned sometime in the future...bummer.
Is that really true?

..or is this because each Fooger would require its OWN reverse-polarity adapter?

Which you can use...this just doesn't seem right. Why would the use a reverse polarity adaptor (or multiple of them) cause you to not be able to use more than one unit that required reverse polarity? Isn't it just two wires crossed the other way? Doesn't make sense why this limitation would exist. OK...what the One Spot compatibility chart ACTUALLY says is:
Moogerfooger – All pedals – CYR (each Moogerfooger pedal requires separate 1 SPOT to avoid noise)
It doesn't say you can't power multiple MF's - it just warns that there may be noise associated with doing so. It also says that the Electro-Harmonix Holy Grail requires it's own One Spot to avoid noise. I've noticed that if I turn the Drive up on my MF-102 (with our without the One Spot) I can hear it whine...maybe this is amplified by the use of one power unit?

exactly right...they say that you should only use one, one-spot per moogerfooger due to noise...I should have clarified that. However, this is due to the fact that the one spot does not have the same type of power that a voodoo labs pedal power does. The pedal power is far and away a better device for powering multiple pedals but the one spot is great for one, maybe two pedals. Has anyone out there tried the dunlop DC brick? It's quite a bit cheaper than the pedal power...
I'm currently using a 1spot to power a freqbox, a murf, a tuner pedal, an overdrive pedal and a looper pedal and haven't noticed any noise when I'm playing at home. I haven't gigged with this setup yet, although today I was in the studio and there was a very high pitched whine on the freqbox that was probably a power issue... however it could have been from the large screen moniter as well. I have also had my 104SD (instead of the tuner) powered with the other 2 moogers simultaneously by the 1spot without problems (would do them all but my daisy chain is one too short). That being said I've only had the 1spot for a couple of weeks, so I wouldn't be surprised if I run into problems in the future. I guess time will tell.

I can't comment on other power sources, but I'm completely happy with my Voodoo Labs pedal powers. I've got two: one on my Moogerfooger board and one on my gigging/guitar board. They power everything perfectly, and I've never had noise issues. Also, it might seem like a pain to have to special-order cables from VL, but they've always been communicative and quick, and they sent me the first one free.
update on noise
I have noticed recently that certain combinations of pedals produce a very high pitched whining noise... for example my overdrive and freqbox together, etc. It seems mostly attached to the OD pedal, I may try isolating its power and see if that fixes it...
