I Need the Dimensions for the MF Pedal Rackmount Kit

Post by Henfield » Sat Jan 19, 2008 12:32 pm

Hi,

I am looking to use a SKB "pop-up" type mixer case to mount some Fooger pedals along with a patchbay and some rackmount effect units, but I cannot find the dimensions anywhere for the MF pedal rackmount kit. I know that the kit takes up 6U of rack space, but I need to know the depth, from rack rail to the bottom of unit, so that I can see if there is proper depth in the case for my idea to work.

I want to use this type of case, as I think that it would allow me to leave it horizontal for me to use on the floor as a pedalboard with my bass guitar, as well as popped up to use on tabletop or on a stand next to my synths.

Thank you for any help that you can give to me.

Well, bigcitymusic.com lists the dimensions of a CP-251 as: 9.3" x 5.3" x 2.5"

They fit pretty snug in the rack kit, so I'd take the depth as 2.5 inches. Not sure if that includes rubber feet. I'd measure mine, but don't have it here.

Good luck!

19" x 10.5" x about 2.375" The Moogers and their pots stick out beyond the 2.375"

Mark,

Thank you for the dimensions, how far up to the knobs and footswitches stick up above the rail?

About 1.25" beyond the rack.

Henfield:
Im looking to do the same thing, have you had any luck finding a popup case that fits more than 12 units?
Thanks,

No, I have not found one that fits more 12 units, but that is fine with me. I do not want it to be too large, but yet I want to be able to add a bit of gear to it. The MF pedals would take up 6 units, a patchbay 1U, a power supply 1U, 2 rackmount effects 2U, which totals up to 10 U. If I lose one of the effect units or the power supply, I would have 3U left to mount a CP-251, which is a future purchase that I currently do not own.

I will post updates and pics as I go along.

Hey Y'all:

I'm working on a similar thing. I've looked at the pop-up units, but I'd prefer to keep mine skinny like a suitcase, and I'm hoping for room for 6 moogers, CP-251 and a patch bay. It'll be about 20W x 40L -- not sure yet on the depth.

I'm working on designing a case right now, with stow-away kickback legs in the back.

My bro works with a company in Indiana, Cabbage Cases. They make some fiberboard cases and will do custom with foam padding in the covers.

Covers are secured with nylon straps/buckles.

I wanted to go ATA but just too heavy and WAY expensive. I think this will allow me to get what I need pretty cheaply.

Hmm, maybe documenting this will give me the kick I need to get this done, though I should be playing my bass right now.

Stay tuned....

I thought about something for 6 Foogers as well, something along the lines of the "Fooger Station" that was discussed in other another topic. This would actually look like a Minimoog, with the foogers along the bottom (where the keyboard would be) and the CP-251(s), patchbays(s), and rack effects on a pop-up, like the controls for the mini. I even have a rough drawing made, but I think that this idea will take too long to complete, plus I am not sure if I would ever get 6 Moogers (unless Moog starts giving us something better than what they showed at NAMM!).

The SKB Mixer Case will be large enough as it is, plus it will allow me to use them on the floor or upright on a table or stand.

Yeah, I've seen the sketches for that one. Really cool idea.

I'm at 5 foogers now, and a Freq Box is probably in the works before long.

I'll try to finish up my concept in the next few weeks and post a pic.

hey guys,
Definitely let me know what you come up with!
I too was inspired by the original foogerstation. I wanted to do something similar to what henfield is describing. here is a thread about my project:
http://moogmusic.com/forum/viewtopic.ph ... =designing

After designing and redesigning for months and months I've come full circle with my design. I put a lot of thought into this and I realized that my design was impractical for me for several reasons. Mainly, cost, studio real estate, time, finding a case, and some design complications (power, the hinge).

While the idea of the ooberfooger was way cool I decided to reinvestigate what I wanted from it. I want to be able to patch my MFs and a sturdy patchbay, I want to the MFs and the patchbay easily accessible and within reach, and I want this easily and cheaply portable.

So now I am looking at a design similar to what the Colonel is talking about and incorporating the case into the design. I thought the idea of a pop up mixer case would be perfect but I can't seem to find one with more than 12 spaces. This project needs at least 13 (6 mfs + 6MFS +1rack unit patchbayis).

It doesn't have to pop up, but that would be sturdy, cool, convenient. so let's keep in touch.
I have a notebook full of ideas and designs for my initial idea and I would be happy to share any and all of the shoud you need/want it

So far, i haven't found any pop-up mixer cases that would fit more than 12spaces.

I did find these plain rack cases linked here:
http://www.skbcases.com/industrial/prod ... id=130&s=p
I just wish they werent 20" deep.

Ideally, I want to find 2 skb/gator/ATA rack cases; one 13-14 units high and less than 12 inches deep , and another that was 12 units high and under 16"deep.

I need two cases because one will hold the 6 foogers and the patchaby, and the other will hold the voyager RME, 2 cp251s, a VX-351, and a VX-352.
If I could pull this off and be able to take my minimodular out with a suitcase under each arm, i would be very happy.

Does anyone know of some other cases that might fit this description?

Here is how I have mine set up. Mixer-top rack case from http://www.pearsoncases.com/mixer_top_racks.htm

Not the pop up case but it works. As you can see it also holds a Filterbank, Electro Harmonix Bass Micro Synth, patchbay, soundcard, and power conditioner. Its very heavy, definitely weighs over 100lbs  [/img]

Very cool Mooger rack! I especially like how you have incorporated other non-Moog items into your setup. The only issue that I would have is how to activate the Moogers while playing, without a mess of expression pedals, but maybe that is what the new MP-201 will allow you to control.

Thanx Henfield, I don't play live at all, I got the case simply to hold everything in a convenient package. So the switching on and off of Foogers + the other FX is no issue since its really just tweak, explore, and record into Ableton Live for me.

But yea, I'm very interested in the new MP-201. Midi sync on any CV control of the MoogerFoogers and my .Com Modular Woohoo!!!!!!!!!!! Seems kinda expensive now, but once released the full potential of the pedal should really open up once people get a chance to use it and post how they are incorporating it into their systems.
